TOKYO – A Japanese court on Monday convicted two members of the environmental group Greenpeace of stealing whale meat they claim was intended for illegal consumption.

The Aomori District Court gave suspended sentences to the activists after finding them guilty of stealing 50 pounds (23 kilograms) of whale meat from a delivery service company's warehouse in April 2008. The meat came from whales killed during Japan's government-backed research hunts.

If they were that hungry they should have said so. The Japanese are decent folk and I believe they would have given them something to eat. They didn’t need to steal.

I`d love to see the Japanese Navy escort their whalers and if the enviro creeps assault them then board, arrest, and detain the crew, afterwards scuttle the boat.

I would assume these people have no real job. Why not eat whale meat when no one else is looking? It’s not like they’re doing what they do for the whales sake. They just like being part of a club they think is really cool.

The Japanese should have tossed the two behind bars for at least six months and fed them whale meat for their three squares a day, without telling them what the food was.
