Tony Blair on Dick Cheney: He wanted to remake Middle East after 9/11, invade Iraq, Syria, Iran
N.Y. Daily News ^ | September 5th 2010

Dick Cheney wanted to invade several Middle East nations, not just Iraq, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair reveals in his new book.

Blair writes that the former Vice President had a goal to remake the power structure of several countries in that part of the world.

Cheney "would have worked through the whole lot, Iraq, Syria, Iran, dealing with all their surrogates in the course of it -- Hezbollah, Hamas, etc.," Blair wrote in his memoir, "A Journey."

The former PM told Christiane Amanpour on ABC's "This Week" that Cheney, 69, believed "the world had to be remade after September the 11th."

"Dick was always absolutely hard-line on these things," Blair said. "I mean, I think he would openly avow this."

In his book, Blair writes Cheney wanted to deliver a message to nations he felt were supporting terrorists and terror organizations.

"He was for hard, hard power," he wrote. "No ifs, no buts, no maybes. We're coming after you so change or be changed."

We could have turned the Middle East into a parking lot had we chosen to do so. Unfortunately, since we have somehow come to represent the Nazis in the years after WWII we aren’t allowed to do anything other than “understand” and “build.”

He looks like he just went 35 rounds in Lolapalooza 2010, and lost. That rack of military ribbons looks like they were cut from the back of a bag of Kennelration Camel Chow.

Someone needs to tell him to get rid of the fish net. It’s putting a damper on his ogreish manly good looks.

Too bad about that seagull poop on the front of his jacket. Some dictators just can’t get catch a break.

One thing you can say in his favor, he’s got that Michael Jackson touch on the hair down pat. You half expect to see him grab his crotch, stand on his tipee toes, and yell, “Oh!”

Cheney had the right idea. The delivery of the message that any terrorist world-wide should be scared to death, because we were coming for them, quickly changed to, well that is except for Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Al Fatah. When that became evident despite Syria and Iran funding and training terrorists to kill U. S. forces, we became the paper tiger to the world.

Good luck turning that perception around. These people seek to destroy us, and we act as if we’ve never heard of them.

His role in the affair was giving the Scots a referendum back in 1997 on whether to have a devolved government. After that, the natural leftist inclinations of the Scottish people could display themselves in their full depressing ‘glory’ in this episode...

What a visionary. Would the Syrians have come around? You really don’t hear much about them.

If a doctor told you that you had cancer and in order to survive you needed a radical procedure to remove it all, you would do what’s recommended...or you would die.

The current Arab/Islamic Mideast status quo is a cancer on civilization.

In that sphere, Cheney’s views are too radical, because we, the West, rather choose to slowly die.

I thought we should have left Iraq after catching saddam, the cost to us at that time was $800,000,000 and 8 months. Then a third of our troops should have headed into Syria level them and the guys still in Afghanistan and the other two thirds should have effected regime change in Iran, with a two prong attack, then all our troops leave and we would have given those countries much work to do rebuilding with no help from us except a note saying, this is what you get for screwing with the USA. Estimated cost: 1.2 - 2.45 billion. We should have had a public hanging for Saddam and Imanutjob and a few others at Ground Zero.

No, we got bogged down in not killing civilians who are the victims of the bad guys. Not a bad aim, it takes a tad longer and costs a boatload of money.

This begs the question:

What stopped Cheney?

Was it Cheney's boss?

Typical of the Daily News, they hide the fact that Blair was highly appreciative of Cheney, like he was on ABC yesterday. It wasn't the least bit condemning. He only speaks of Bush and Cheney approvingly in the book and defends them and the Iraq mission to anyone who asks.

Check out his testimony in front of the UK hearings on the war this year (you can find them on C-SPAN). He gives the greatest justification for the war you'll ever hear. They try to get him to denounce the US/Bush and he won't do it. Says he'd do it all again.

I would really have been nice if we had truly been hard on Iraq, i.e. installed a benevolent dictator there until the people could govern themselves.

The idea that you can go into a cruel dictatorship, kill the dictator, disband the army, and expect nothing bad to come of the leadership vacuum is stupidity bordering on insanity.

Who’s that with Mickey Rourke ?

That's not Mickey Rourke, that's Gene Simmons from KISS after someone drew a fake beard and mustache with a magic marker.

Iraq, after a poor start, worked well. Syria would have toppled in a day, Iran in half the time as Iraq. Iran has a huge populace who would have been eager to step in and run things had we toppled the religious theocracy.

Dick Cheney was right.
