Gen. Petraeus: Dove World Outreach Center's 'Burn a Koran Day' endangers US troops
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 09/07/2010 | Jonathan Adams

The United States' top commander in Afghanistan has warned that a planned Koran-burning event in Florida could put US troops in danger.

Gen. David Petraeus added his voice to mounting protests from both the US and abroad over the Dove World Outreach Center's plans to burn Korans on Saturday to mark the anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks. His comments ratcheted up the pressure on once-obscure pastor Terry Jones to call off the event.

The controversy comes as some 120,000 US and allied troops are waging a counter-insurgency campaign against the Taliban in Afghanistan, a campaign whose goals include winning support for the US-backed government from the largely Muslim population.

General Petraeus said that burning Korans "is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems – not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community," according to CNN.

""It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan," Gen. David Petraeus said in a statement issued Monday ...

"Even the rumor that it might take place has sparked demonstrations such as the one that took place in Kabul yesterday," he said. "Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult."

"Mr. Jones, the pastor of the center in Gainesville, Florida, has touted the activity as "International Burn the Koran Day." Jones also authored a book titled "Islam is of the Devil," which has a Facebook page and Twitter account.

How does he think our soldiers who are Christian felt about having bibles confiscated and burned by our own military?

Burning korans seems to be a good way to reach out for dialog. Not unlike building Victory Mosques.

Simple logic should lead a clear thinker to conclude that, if burning the Pedophile Pirate’s hateful screed endangers people, then there really are no moderate adherents or proselytes thereof.

No?

And when will he admit we are at war with islam. Islam is the problem. Muslims don’t need an excuse to riot and kill people. Muslims murder other muslims, including women and children, every day. Appeasement is not the answer.

Exactly. In my opinion, if our troops aren't allowed to fight to win, we should leave and destroy all the drug crops from the air.

That's right. Islam is a disease that needs to be wiped off the face of the earth.

This is a stupid idea. Not that anyone should be surprised when someone who wears jean shorts came up with it.

Burning copies of the Koran is a provocative act. Likewise, our mere existence is a provocative act to Islamists. The issue I would take with this event is that it is not a productive provocative act.

Productive acts would include charging the developers of the GZ Mosque with being undocumented agents of a hostile foreign power and advocating the overthrow of the Constitution, and throwing their butts in Gitmo. That would be useful. Merely yelling at the enemy is not useful.

Military burns unsolicited Bibles sent to Afghanistan

(CNN) -- Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

The unsolicited Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.

I was flipping around on the news stations this morning and stopped on Good Morning America. They were doing a segment on this. It made me laugh because they were doing a thing on Islam is peaceful, but they were saying in the same breath that it would endanger American troops if this church burned Korans. Let me see. If Islam is peaceful, why would it endanger anyone if this church burns Korans? And the funny thing was, neither of the hosts saw anything crazy in saying both of these things in the same breath.

I’m considering burning a chapter in the privacy of my own home on a regular basis. With the internet, it’s no trouble at all to print out chapters as needed.

Both the Commander-In-Chief and a General in charge of a war have called for Americans to stifle their First Amendment rights.

What do they think will happen if we actually do give up all our rights because of violent muslims?

Will we be safer?
Will they stop trying to kill infidels?
Will they cease jihad?
Will they begin to tolerate non-muslims in any way?

No.

Benjamin Franklin had it right. This is a perfect example.

Don’t ever give up your rights for some false promise of security. Ever. You’ll end up losing both your security and your freedom.

Burn ‘em.

Funny how the left is all about protecting religious freedom when it comes to building the mosque, but totally against the freedom to burn korans. I want muslims to know their satanic cult isn’t wanted here. America needs to get their collective heads out of the sand and see what islam has done to other countries and what it will inevitably do in America. Islam is in no way compatible with American laws and ideals, in spite of what muzzie Barry says.

They would be saddened, perhaps angered or outraged. But here's one thing for certain --- THEY ARE NOT GOING TO KILL ANYONE BECAUSE OF IT.

Petraeus needs to familiarize himself with the concept of total war.

Living infidels is what really makes them go crazy. So all us infidels should stop breathing just so we don’t make them angry? Yeah, right.
