Republican Rep. Mike Castle of Delaware appears well positioned to win next Tuesday's GOP Senate primary and run a competitive campaign for the seat Vice President Joe Biden occupied for 36 years.
He has millions of dollars in his campaign coffers, support from the Republican establishment and a tidal wave of national public opinion swinging in his favor. Recent statewide polls put him well ahead of his opponent, Christine O'Donnell.
But appearances can be deceiving, especially when the Tea Party Express throws its weight behind a primary challenger, as the case of felled Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski showed last month.
O'Donnell, a marketing consultant who ran unsuccessfully against Biden in 2008, is vowing to give Castle, a former governor and nine-term congressman, a run for his money, making the race the next big test for establishment Republicans who are trying to keep their jobs.
The Tea Party Express has spent $250,000 campaigning for O'Donnell so far, airing its first ad last week that cast O'Donnell as the more conservative candidate and Castle as "one of the most liberal Republicans in Congress."
Castle voted against the Recovery Act and Democrats' health care law, but he supported the 2008 bank bailout, cap-and-trade legislation and Democrats' campaign finance measure known as the Disclose Act. He also voted for the state fiscal aid bill last month.
A Tea Party Express poll of likely Republican voters last week showed O'Donnell and Castle in a dead heat.

The corrupt MSM just simply does not understand (or refuses to understand) exactly what's going on "out there".
BTTT for Christine!
O’Donnel is a horrible candidate. If she is nominated she will lose.
"..."My opponent has a sense of entitlement and assumes Delaware voters are just going to hand him a U.S. Senate seat," she said last week, "but I prefer to hand him a pink slip."
Exactly Christine!
You yourself may indeed in the long run not turn out to be the antidote, to return America to respecting and supporting the responsible while turning the lazy and irresponsible to face themselves, in which case you should go in turn. But for now please please get people like Mike Castle, the subversive professional politicians, out of our government.
“ODonnel is a horrible candidate. If she is nominated she will lose.”
Well, Mike Castle is a horrible politician. If he wins, he will undermine everything that the conservative cause has been striving for in the past two years.
And he will be used as a pawn by the administration (and the MSM) to go along with the radical agenda and demonstrate what “a good Republican” is supposed to look like, unlike all those “hateful extremists” who dare to oppose Obama’s policies.
Castle is also refusing to repeal Obamacare, that alone should disqualify him.

Well ..... we're waiting ...
BUMP
"Castles terms marked the full establishment of what Delaware political commentator Celia Cohen has called the Age of Incumbency. Following du Ponts very successful and popular terms as Governor, Delaware politics seemed to have reached a consensus, with leaders of both parties being regularly re-elected, while working closely and quietly together on a conservative fiscal low tax, pro business, and clean government agenda.
Prior to du Pont only four men had served eight years as Governor and one of those had two non-consecutive terms. From 1977 until the present there have been four governors, two from each party, each emulating Castle in essentially carrying out the program initiated by Pierre S. du Pont, IV."
Please elaborate instead of posting a hit-and-run piece.
What makes her a horrible candidate? She has had some financial and personal issues, yes, but how does that translate into her being a bad candidate?
She's not going to vote for liberal garbage like Castle is.

Wow! I can’t wait for the movie to come out. The trailer is great!
Some scaredy cats just refuse to believe a conservative can win in Delaware (presumably, they believe the same about the entire northeast). O’Donnell can win if she does not have to fight her own party after winning the primary.
So, there!
I am not a fan of Castle, but at least be honest about his position. He is not in favor of trying to repeal Obamacare because Obama would veto any such bill, and so it would be a waste of time and effort. He has said he would support such an effort if a GOP president is elected in 2012.
Now, you might think it is worth trying to repeal Obamacare even with the knowledge the effort will be vetoed, and that is a legitimate opinion. But I think there is a big difference between saying I don't want to repeal Obamacare, and saying I don't believe we can repeal Obamacare right now...
That being said, I would be okay if she wins the primary. I really would rather the GOP not take over the Senate this cycle, because I don't want to give Obama a "do-nothing Republican Congress" to run against in 2012. He wills till try, but it will be a harder sell if the Senate is still run by the Dems. And with the filibuster, 49 or 50 GOP senators can prevent any offensive legislation from passing, even if Snowe, Collins, Brown, Graham and McCain ALL voted with the Dems.
Those that do not see what we what for a future, (our constitutionally limited republic back) and politically stabbed us in the back are paying the price, Bennett, Murkowski, but not McCain.
Castle should be next, we are mad as hell and we do not want to take it anymore, get rid of all the career politicans, especially namby pamby Rinos like him. Bla bla bla she can't win, who cares, let us go down swinging.
Go Christine Go...
Just donated to Christine. No RHINO’s please!
Why would forcing Obama to veto a repeal of Obamacare be a waste? Sounds to me like a picture perfect issue to frame the 2012 election with.
I don't know, but it seems like it is at least a reasonable opinion, even if you don't agree. I'm with you, I think making him defend this horrible legislation with a veto gives us more ammo. But I can see where others might have different opinions.
It also is a far cry from someone making a blanket statement that they would not repeal Obamacare under any circumstances, which seemed to be what the poster implied.
Really? Why? And be specific, without quoting the Castle lies.
I stood on the mall and protested the night before they passed this monster and I can’t abide anyone, candidate or Congressman, dismissing it. Whether they can actually repeal it or not, stopping it should be every conservative’s #1 priority. Boehner says he’ll defund it, whatever it takes and that’s what I want to hear.
This was the turning point for many Americans, where they finally got involved and decided to fight back against politician’s who completely ignored the wishes of the American people.
I don’t live in DE so I guess my opinion doesn’t matter much but a lukewarm, “we’ll get to it when it’s more realistic,” wouldn’t do for me.
“Just donated to Christine. No RHINOs please!”
Right on!
Then we ought to put our best foot forward and try our damndest so she can win.
Pro-Life
There we go. Thanks for the banner! I love O’Donnell and I think she will make a fabulous candidate!
