Abuse Of Power: Our misnamed Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against an Arizona sheriff at the top of the administration's enemies list. Prosecute border sheriffs and sue states but protect the Black Panthers? Gotcha.
The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the county itself and outspoken Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The suit alleges that the sheriff's office is in violation of civil rights laws by refusing for 17 months to fully cooperate with an investigation into police practices and jail operations.
The federal probe itself deals with alleged discrimination, unconstitutional searches and seizures, and having English-only policies in the jails.
"The actions of the sheriff's office are unprecedented," said Thomas Perez, assistant attorney general for the department's civil rights division. "It is unfortunate that the department was forced to resort to litigation to gain access to public documents and facilities."
What is unprecedented and unfortunate is the administration's war on Arizona for enforcing federal law and protecting its border, our border.
The feds have sued the state over the implementation of SB1070, which mirrors existing federal law, alleging that it's racist even though the law specifically prohibits racial profiling. The administration, in a report to the United Nations, has cited the state as a human rights violator.

Nothing but a fishing expedition by a 'Justice" Department that wants no immigration enforcement. As long as Sheriff Joe has been doing immigration enforcement, there are hundreds of specific potential cases, but the JD seems to be lacking specific individuals who's rights have been violated.
Dead on, they’ve been gunning for Sheriff Joe ever since he introduced the concept of pink underwear and baloney sandwiches. But he’s a pretty savvy guy, he’ll prevail in the end, just wait and see.

When he started housing prisoners in tents, gone were the days of coddling and eventually releasing criminals because of “overcrowding.”

The “Just Us” Department investigation is to demand to rifle through Arpaio’s paperwork, and interrogate people to determine if Arpaio might have done something wrong. Which is utter b.s.
If they had any specific evidence, they would have charged Arpaio with a crime. But as it is, they want to “poke around your stuff until we see something that we might be able to prosecute you for.”
Some how we are going to have to come up with a way to stop this pos we have in the White House.

Well it could be, if language barriers imposed by mere decree mean it is impossible for Spanish speakers to alert staff to genuine problems. If a prisoner’s health goes south due to a local jailer’s negligence, it’s now a federal civil rights violation.
It galls that 99% of these problems are the illegales, but a domestic citizen or two may also be affected.
Can’t the tables be turned and complaints be made by states to the U.N. about Washington, DC?
