No Need for God? Stephen Hawking Defies Divine Creation

Professor Stephen Hawking is a remarkable human being. His courage and tenacity are an inspiration to all. His work on the theory of gravity has changed the way the field of physics is taught. But, when he crosses that border from science to theology, his worldview leads him into abject disaster.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

By any measure, Stephen Hawking is one of the most famous and influential figures in modern science. For thirty years, he served as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, and his career before and after his decades in that post is the stuff of scientific legend. He is also probably the longest-living person ever to be diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS], and the very fact that he has been productive since that diagnosis at age 21 is a testimony to his sense of personal mission and sheer determination.

Professor Hawking is out with a new book, and in The Grand Design, he, along with co-author Leonard Mlodinow, now presses his case against God — or at least against any role for God in the origin of the universe or the beginning of time.

God answers Job: where were you when I created the universe (loosely paraphrased from memory)

To me, as a Christian, just the very fact that Stephen Hawking is alive after all these years is a miracle, and a testament to God’s Glory! What a shame that he doesn’t realize it himself. *sigh*

I was just reading through Job, and the book had been my favorite for many years.

Dr. Richard Feynman could have fit all of Hawking's accomplishments in his pinkie.

No one can deny Dr. Feyman’s genius, but in all fairness to Stephen Hawking, Dr. Feyman did not suffer from ALS.

I was sadden when I read some of Dr. Hawking statements. I have the utmost respect for him, but Dr. Hawking tries to say he is discussing science and not theology, then presents a case against God.

If it wasn’t for morality based on religion, Stephen Hawking would’ve been aborted, left for dead, or otherwise hidden away from polite society.

So he can think what he likes, and say what he likes. But the way he belittles believers, I find off-putting.

‘A fool says in his heart, there is no God.” Why is it that a such a “brilliant” man violates one of the most basic rules of logic? One cannot logically assume a universal negative about the existence of God:

1. In order to say, “there is no God”, one has to know all of the universe and everything in it, in other words, be all knowing.

2. But if one really does know that there is no God, then he must be all knowing.

3. If one is all knowing, he himself would have to be God.

4. So if you take Hawking’s statement at face value, there actually is a God, it’s Hawkings himself.

So you see, one cannot ever logically be an Athiest. They can be an Agnostic, and while sadly not knowing for certain whether God exists, at least be logically consistent with their view.

No Need for Stephen Hawking? God Defies Secular Humanist(his 'Grand Designer' Minus the Grand Design)

There, I fixed it. P.S., Mr. Hawking; You have an appointment with God, and like it or not, you won't be missing it.

Dr. Hawking is a scientist, not a theologian. He can hardly school Christian’s on the existence, or non-existence of our Lord. He is preaching to the choir.

You correct; if it wasn’t for our moral conscience, Dr. Hawking my not be with us today. If he had lived in Germany during the Third Reich, he would have been classified as a “useless eater” and exterminated.

Hawking has created nothing. Just put together some very crude models to describe a complex universe that was here long before he was.

This character´s a believer or non-believer depending on his book cycle. Thus he´s cornered the market, believers and non-believers alike.

little stevie wonder is caught up with himself. He should take on the task of figuring out how long eternity is. And use common sense and put 40, 60, or 90 years against it and see where his focus should be. stevie is not in the ‘bright’ column, IMHO.

Reminds me of this joke:

God vs. Scientist

God was sitting in heaven one day when a scientist said to Him, “God, we don’t need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing - in other words, we can now do what you did in the beginning.”

“Oh, is that so? Explain...” replies God. “Well,” says the scientist, “we can take dirt and form it into the likeness of you and breathe life into it, thus creating man.”

“Well, that’s very interesting... show Me.”

So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil into the shape of a man. “No, no, no...” interrupts God, “Get your own dirt.”
