DETROIT (WXYZ) - A 25-year-old man is recovering from a gun shot wound after police say he was shot while breaking into a home.
Officers say the man had gotten into the home on Winthrop near Fenkell and Greenfield whenh e was confronted by the 59-year-old property owner.
Investigators say that during that confrontation the intruder lunged at the property owner, who shot him in the abdomen. The property owner is a licensed gun owner.
The 25-year-old was taken to the hospital to be treated. He is in temporary serious condition.
The property owner is not expected to face charges.
Probably his first offense. /s
He was high on stupid pills.
One of the good things about Michigan is our fairly decent gun laws.
Outstanding!
What’s with the qualification that the homeowner “was licensed”?
He was in his own damn home, where the ONLY “license” required is the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution!!!
I don’t know about decent. I left Brighton a few years ago and moved to Indiana, what a big difference a state line can make.
My friend came down to visit last weekend and I sold him my old 92F. Watching him get a permit to purchase, filling out all the forms and then taking it back and having it registered with his fingerprint reminded me of the hoops you had to jump through there. Down here you can get a CCW without a hassle at all, and can walk in a buy a handgun from anywhere right on the spot.
Hope it goes permanent.
What puzzles me is that you have an obviously bad guy who has broken into your home and can now do harm to you and your family....why shoot once?

Especially with the road conditions, Indiana has to have the worst roads.Pot hole haven.
Fenkell and Greenfield is a tough little hood.
Hoops or not, we still have some of the most liberal (in a good way) gun laws in the country. Open carry pretty much everywhere short of schools. Municipalities can’t make ordinances against them. In most cases of home invasion an unofficial form of the castle doctrine is accepted and an official castle doctrin law is making its way through the legislature.
I could walk right down the main drag in Ann Arbor with a handgun on each hip and a shot gun over my shoulder and there isn’t a damn thing anybody can do about it. Even Jenny Granholm recently told a whiney republican that he better get used to guns on the street because the law isn’t going to change.
In 2002 I applied for my CC permit in Michigan and it took me 6 months to get it. when I moved to Indiana it took two weeks.
They aren’t the best here but are still far better than Michigan roads!
In 2002 our CCW laws were new and still being figured out. They’re much better now.
