Castle is a Democrat in everything but name. We aren't talking about a person who agrees with us "70-80% of the time". We are talking about a 70 year old guy who votes more like John Kerry then Jim Demint.

I don't think that is true, from what I have been able to read. However, even if he voted like a Dem, he could allow the GOP to control the Senate. The alternative is to elect a Dem, who will vote like John Kerry and have Harry Reid or Dick Durbin lead the Senate.

(I didn't bother addressing the possibility of O'Donnell beating Coons - I don't deal in fantasy.)

You know, calling me (of all people) an “RNCbot” does not help your case any. The only thing that the RNC has gotten from me in many years are notes telling them to stop spending money to support RINOs running in primaries against electable conservatives (and since I use their SASEs the RNC pays for the privilege of reading my notes).

If O’Donnell wins the primary, I will do the same as if Castle wins the primary: nothing. Castle can get his RINO friends to contribute to his campaign and win in November, while O’Donnell can con some people to give her money to pay her back rent other expenses and lose big in November. in the meantime, I will contribute to Senate campaigns in which my money will be used to elect a conservative who otherwise might not win, such as for Toomey in PA, Rubio in FL, Ayotte in NH, Rossi in WA and Johnson in WI.

You have really lost it this time, Johnnie.

One more outburst and I WILL hit the abuse button.

Good point, I forgot about that for a moment.

Actually, I don’t believe for a second that DE is too liberal to elect someone more conservative than Castle (which, given how liberal Castle is, is no mean feat). My point is that DE won’t elect a conservative to the Senate unless he or she has an adequate background, experience, honesty level and political skills, and that O’Donnell is sorely lacking in those departments. Unfortunately, the conservative cupboard is pretty bare in DE right now, but hopefully we’ll have developed an adequate bench by 2012 (or at least by 2014).

I need to change my position, by Castle winning the Republicans can possibly take over the Senate. It stinks, but people need to realize that on the East Coast sometimes a RINO is the best we can get.

So strip away all the bloviating rhetoric and the short answer from all three of you is:

No, we refuse to learn anything from the repeated failure of our "Be the Democrat Lite party" political strategy.

I don’t view Castle as an honorable figure at all; I view him as a selfish liberal (but I repeat myself). It is indeed because I consider Castle to be a selfish liberal that I do not think that he would ever resign in favor of the Spawn of Biden unless he got something even better in return (and at his age, and with what little is left in the Obama administration, there is nothing that they could offer him that would be better than a U.S. Senate seat), and that he will not switch to the Democrats unless the wind was blowing in the Democrats’ direction and he had something to gain by switching (which for a Senator I don’t think could possibly happen before 2016, since the Democrats will continue to lose Senate seats in 2012 and 2014).

But before that situation could possibly develop, Castle will have to face reelection in 2014. If Castle stays a Republican, we can run a young, qualified, experienced conservative against him in the GOP primary; and if he switches to the RATs for the 2014 election because he knows that he can’t win the GOP primary, we can run a young, qualified, experienced conservative against an old, liberal traitor in the general. I would also posit that it would be more difficut to defeat Coons as a 50-year-old four-year Democrat incumbent in 2014 than it would be to defeat Castle in either the primary or the general as a 75-year-old four-year incumbent.

You have completely misconstrued what I have repeatedly posted. I want the GOP to be the conservative party, not just in DE but in every state, but running people who are unfit for the Senate and who will get trounced in the election is no way to accomplish that. Had O’Donnell run for the state legislature in 2008 instead of for the U.S. Senate, built up some kind of record, and was honest in her dealings, she would likely be a “rising star” who would be strongly considered for a U.S. Senate seat in 2012 or 2014. We need to build the party from the ground up, not expect to elect to the Senate the first person to walk through the door and falsely claim to have carried two counties in a Senate race.

FALSE. More smear tactics. She has answered all questions satisfactorily.

She was totally taken apart by a radio interviewer for her statement that she beat Joe Biden in two counties in the 2008 senate race. She didn't.

The host played the audio of her statement after she denied saying it. This is a math issue, and criticizing the host for addressing it isn't explaining it.

I've looked all over the web for an logical explanation from O'Donnell's side, but to no avail. If you know of a link explaining what really happened I would appreciate it.

There are also videos posted on the web of her supporters menacingly blocking people from filming her. For example: YouTube.

Not very good PR, IMHO. I haven't found any explanation for that behavior, either. Again, a link explaining what really happened would be appreciated.

I think her campaign needs to get out in front of these issues with an explanation or an apology, if warranted.

I feel she has been sub-par in the addressing of these issues thus far and I think it makes makes her a weaker candidate. I also think this is the reason big name endorsements (e.g. Palin, DeMint) are missing.

I hope I am wrong.

I'm am definitely not a Castle fan, either. I just wish there were stronger R candidates against him.

You know, your refusal to engage in calm and polite discussion with those who disagree with you doesn't make you right, clever or smart - it just makes you an ass.

There are a number of people who look at the the facts on the ground, the extremely dim general election prospects of O'Donnell, and the nature of the Delaware electorate, and think it might be better to take half a loaf rather than none. There are also those who would rather have no loaf than accept half a loaf they find unacceptable. Both are valid positions, and people should be able to argue their points without being called names or accused of ill intentions.

If you listended to the radio interview with Dan Gaffney, or read the Weekly Standard Interview with John McCormick then you know what really happened.

Thanks.

It appears that, as an old friend would so tactfully say, she "hovers on the perimeters of veracity."

And, as always, no punches pulled by Ace.

Have you guys thought about how your comments are being received on the ground?

Just look at Ting (Senate), also the party-endorsed Mike Castle and Michelle Rollins (House). People here are fighting off the same old same old crap we always get from the GOP machine. After last year’s huge grassroot demonstrations, lots of us wanted to volunteer at local party headquaters. Except for hitting the newbies for money donations and time/phonebank for PARTY ENDORSED candidates, OF COURSE they don’t want any upstart tea party member to upset the cart.

All we hear is “can’t win”, “better off with the RINOs”, etc. etc. It is so discouraging. Fine, why fight for nominations or even go through voting then?

It’s probably been decades since conservatives have had any reason to go to the polls...we’ll see what happens next week.

It seems that many forget that FR is a conservative forum; not a Republican one.

I didn’t read about this “Castle will resign for Beau” rumor. Where did it come from? Doesn’t sound likely.
