The Branstad/Reynolds team this morning announced that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will headline a fundraising event for them in Des Moines on Oct. 4.

Christie, elected in 2009 and sworn into office last January, has quickly risen as a national leader within the Republican Party.

“I’m excited to welcome Governor Christie to Iowa,” said former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad. “He has been a pioneering leader in New Jersey with regard to cleaning up the state’s budget and again putting his state on the right track. I’m happy to have his support and am looking forward to a great event.”

Christie, lately, has sucked. Especially with the Ground Zero Mosque comment and the Bret Schundler debacle.

I am pretty far to the right and live in Joisey. I held my nose and voted for Christie-thought he was a RINO. In some regards he is, but he's pretty awesome 95% of the time. I think (I can't believe I am saying this) he would be a very good POTUS and might be exactly what we need. Fiscally conservative, tells the media to piss off, strong on defense etc...

I did find his position on the GZM annoying and his endorsement of Mike Castle strange.

Chris Christie told Don Imus, in no uncertain terms, that he is not interested in running for the Republican presidential nomination, despite the fact that he’s losing weight.

There are many overweight people in here that pay annually dues for many to enjoy this website. I hope your comment wasn’t meant to insult overweight persons.

I agree he does have POTUS material....but he needs to take care of his state first. The lib-turd media locally will pounce and declare he is more interested in the National scene as opposed to looking after Jersey.

If he ran for POTUS......this Florida Boy would vote for him in a sec. I love his video’s he can think on his feet, he tells it like it is.....and he is a likeable guy.

Gov. Christie weighs something like, what? More than 500 pounds?

I’d say that qualifies him as a state eater.

If I had meant to insult people who are overweight, you wouldn’t have had to write to ask the question.

I regret you took offense.

I would love to watch him debate Obama. Christie woould crush him (no pun intended).

I really miss watching the Cheney debates.

Chris Christie is fat, but you're a jackass. The difference is, he can always diet.

Huh. I didn't realize making a crack at an overweight person "eating a state" was the epitome of good manners and class.

He’s also backing Anna Little (she’s a tea party endorsed candidate running for obamacare Pallone’s seat).
