CLEVELAND (AP) -- Politically weakened but refusing to bend, President Barack Obama insisted Wednesday that Bush-era tax cuts be cut off for the wealthiest Americans, joining battle with Republicans - and some fellow Democrats - just two months before bruising midterm elections.

Singling out House GOP leader John Boehner in his home state, Obama delivered a searing attack on Republicans for advocating "the same philosophy that led to this mess in the first place: cut more taxes for millionaires and cut more rules for corporations."

Sad day when America is no longer a refuge for the hardworking or wealthy.

What did Obama read for his economic education, 101 Liberal Economic Cliches? Does the sub-prime mortgage problem (a decidedly liberal animal) hold any meaning for him?

Barack Obama insisted Wednesday that Bush-era tax cuts be cut off for the wealthiest Americans,

Just wonder how this position sits with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordon, Bill Cosby, et. al.?
I am sure they were Obama voters!!

I’m sure that Harpo and Co. have tax lawyers on this right away, to evade the new law. Furthermore, they worked like fiends to get him into office, so frankly chances are he has a loophole especially for them.

These "wealthiest Americans" probably gave him a majority of their votes. An income of $250,000 is the equivalent to an income of $40,000 or $50,000 in the 1960s, because of inflation, so this cut-off includes a lot of people who really aren't in the category of "wealthiest."

The biggest impact will probably be on small businesses, which will probably mean fewer new jobs created...which Obama will blame on Bush and expect people to accept as valid.

Did anyone REALLY expect he would?

The wealthy and corporate are his sworn enemies.

It's in his genetic structure to destroy the wealthy and corporations.

No news here ... move along.

This will cause the country to slide even deeper in to economic disaster. Maybe this is the lesson that the people of this country need to relearn. Maybe, just maybe, this is what finally drives a stake in the heart of the socialist beast.

IMO, if you ask a billionaire like Gates or Buffett they’ll say, “no problem because they know. especially Warren, they could never spend that much money any how.

But, 36% to 39.6% is about 4%.
4% of $200K individual or $250K family is 8K to 10K increase for the lowest wealthy, (this is not me) I think would be difficult, especially for those with underwater mortgages & over the top real estate/ school taxes.

Folks, I hate to say this because I’ve always had the utmost respect for the Presidency & it really bothers me to say this BUT when I look, read & study Obama I’ve learned to expect the opposite.
For ex., everything he props up with our money either is failing or is in free fall, construction, new home sales, other home sales, car sales employment is down, banks are collapsing. Everything he is & touches is toxic.

Here’s the plan, Sarah, “are ya listening”, Republicans are flailing around without a plan & surely without a leader. The country, states & municipalities especially are being killed by taxes & extreme deficits.

Sarah, it is up to you to tell America that you have a plan.

Sarah, this is BOLD & will make Reagan look miniscule but you must put this forward & I’ll tell ya why.

Not only will this resonate nationally but especially state & local.

You must state that Federally & I encourage state & locally the goevernment will honor all UNION contracts up their expiration dates but afterwards all employment will be re-negotiated on an individual basis & leave it at that.
