Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell confirmed to the Pentagon press corps that Defense Secretary Robert Gates called Florida pastor Terry Jones this afternoon to express his “grave concerns” about a planned Koran burning because it could place US military lives at risk.

Morrell said Gates placed a call between 4 and 4:30 p.m. today and engaged the pastor in a “very brief conversation."

"The Secretary expressed his grave concerns to the pastor that going forward with the Koran burning would put the lives of American servicemembers at risk, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan and he urged him not to proceed with the burning," he said.

This is probably the reason he actually decided not to burn it, given the time-frame.

Did Gates also make a plea to the religion of peace to cease their murder threats against innocents?

Na.

What was the goal?

To condition us into accepting government control of free speech... at least when the speech is against Islam. Just another step in the Islamification of America.

This non-story reminds me very much of the balloon boy fiasco.

We can expect more of this from the idiots in the cablenews business. Namely Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper.

Honor killings in the USA -— no problem.
Terrorism in the USA at Army bases —— no problem
911 Atrocities -— downgraded to ‘no problem’
ROE watered down to ‘plain stupid’ -— no problem
Americans murdered by Islam -— no problem

burn some toliet paper -— STOP THE PRESSES

My wife and I just said pretty much the same things over dinner tonight. Our country is in the hands of politically correct cowards.

EXACTLY what the 1st Amendment was written to prevent: Government intervention in our right to freely speak our minds.

I bet they made him an “offer” he couldn’t refuse. At least this pastor brought a lot of attention to how tolerant muslims are.

So, Gates, 0bummer, and a whole slew of people got their panties upcracked because of one pastor of a Congregation of some 50. Pastor then decided not to burn the Koran after these consultations.......doing this in good faith that relations with Islamists will thereby be improved. Having put the ball in the Islamists’ court (so to speak) what will be their like gestures in return?

Our “leaders” should have said to the Islamic scum:

“This is our country and people are free to burn books and engage in other acts of free speech if they so choose.”

We are not going to stop them, because it is not within our Constitutionally Limited powers to so.”

“Thus, we aren’t going to do anything about it, and YOU are going to get over it”
