Millennials vs. boomers: Give up the reins, you geezers
Times Herald Record Middletown, NY ^ | 9/12/10 | Timothy Malcolm

Posted on 09/12/2010 3:39:09 PM PDT by Impala64ssa

My friends all wait.

They wait to make use of their degrees. They wait for a job to open. They wait to finish graduate school. Again.

They all wait. The economy stinks. It stunk before we started earning salaries. The job market is nonexistent. Even small colleges are filled up. The technology we mastered as curious children is sitting there, but we can't do anything with it. No, it's too busy. It's being used by you people.

And the jobs? You people. The schools? Again, you people. You baby boomers. You're why we're waiting.

Like every generation before us, my generation has gone to school. Most of us are dangling our feet in our parents' homes while boomers continue to work so they can make money. And put off retirement. And attempt to keep the economy afloat — you know, the economy the boomers ruined.

Lately, some critics have concluded that the current 20-somethings are delaying their careers, staying at home and relying on mommy and daddy because they're lazy, or disinterested, or scared of social commitment.

I disagree, and profoundly.

The main reason we 20-somethings still sleep at mom's house is because mom and dad won't get out of the work force. They're clogging the pipeline.

Baby boomers make up the largest generation in American history. The current 20-something generation is almost as large, ironically, thanks to the boomers having all those kids.

A modern day generation gap. The young generation blaming the old for their problems, the more things change... While there is a lot we boomers have to be less than proud of, Mr. Malcolm sounds quite a bit like 0bama blaming Dubya.

Kill all the old people. And anybody else who stands in our way. Except Mooslims. Mooslims are sacred.

Stuff it, millennials! I'm keeping my job until I'm 75 because YOUR heathen crowd and messiah screwed up my retirement plans so thoroughly. Not that I want to work to 75.

The economy is not a zero sum game.

One person does not have to retire to create a job for someone else. In a robust economy, there are lots of jobs.

If the government would lower taxes and get out of the way of those seeking a better life, the young people waiting for the boomers to retire could have their own new jobs created by a growing economy.

It's a little magic brought to you by capitalism.

I read the first half of the excerpt, and exclaimed “it must be satire”. I checked the key words, the topics...NOPE, NOT satire.

So, then it must be a WHINE.

Jealous little spoiled brats. They voted for No Hope and Bad Change and now whine becaue they don’t want to get their little hands dirty. Mom and Dad worked up to the jobs they now have — their brats can do the same by starting at the bottom, doing some hard work and paying their dues. These are the little pukes who will never join the military, you can bet on it.

Boomers vs. millennials: Fork you, kid.

As in stick a fork in him, he's done, of course.

Mr. Malcolm seems to know EXACTLY where the pulse is at on this issue. If I had not started so young, I’d be where many of my peers are today.... just like this guy says... stuck waiting. The really bad news in this isn’t said... but what happens to “US” when “YOU all do retire and start cashing in your stocks and collecting SS? “WE” will have to be taxed like slaves to support it... or some other VERY ugly changes will be suggested...

The real perpetrator in this: ABORTION. If we had 50 million more people, plus a generation of 50 Million MORE born to them in the last 40 years... we’d have 100 MILLION more Tax Payers and we’d be FINE!

Abortion did this. And as with all “sins of a nation”, the price to pay is going to be just terrifying....

I am stunned when I hear 20 year olds calling themselves kids.
If the young one writing this piece was so qualified, mature and responsible, the boomers would be fired to hire this guy at the cost.

Uh. Do you mind free competition based upon ability? Your degrees don't mean squat. This geezer has degrees too, but that's not why people hire me.

As much as I hate abortion the facts do not support that argument. The “lower classes” have a very high percentage of the abortions. It stands to reason that if abortion did not exist and we had 100,000,000 more people that a majority of them would be of the perpetual welfare class.

Boomer to Millenials: Sorry but you guys gave us 0bama and the 111th Congress which has all but bankrupted the nation. Boomers have to keep working to pay for your mistakes. Get used to having a boomer boss until you are as old as he is now...oh, and be grateful you have a job.

So maybe we should all drop dead? Puhleeze. We have paid more into Social Security than any other generation and will get less. Our parents paid very little but used way, way beyond their contribution. And of course, Congress ate the whole fund anyway.

The retirement age used to be 65, but even the youngest of the Boomers won’t reach 65 until next year. In the meantime, the retirement age for some Boomers (a generation is 15 years) has been upped to 66, to 67 for people a couple of years younger, 68 for the next group, etc. So I’m not sure exactly what he expects the people “clogging up the pipeline” to do.

Timothy Malcolm, 25, is the arts and entertainment editor of The Times Herald-Record. His parents are boomers.

Timmy, I'm sorry your boomer parents did not prepare you for the real world. Life is not fair, but it is what you make of it. Being a whiny A&E editor of some lame paper was a poor choice of careers.

I just turned 70 and plan to keep working, knowing that there are several much younger folks who would love to do what I do. Knowing that curiously increases the pleasure of what I do. Not that I am mean or ungenerous, but crapping on the absurd expectations of younger people could be a very teachable moment for them and hence, valuable for my own future.

Members of Gen X should rig an all-out battle to the death between the boomers and millenials. Both generations consist of way too many harmful weaklings.
