U.S. Government will not pay bail for U.S. hiker imprisoned in Iran, U.S. State Department says

Right.

They're also not planning on raising our taxes, giving amnesty to illegals, collecting our medical data for their own reasons, spending money wastefully on earmarks and pork.....

You're right - a couple of government officials have insisted that the US didn't pay it.

They aren't saying who did but they're saying it's not us.

I guess I'll go along with that unless we hear otherwise.

interesting account here from the 4th member of their little travel group, who claims that they found themselves in that area in total innocence and ignorance:

This little Muzzie loving bigoted lefty should be denied reentry into this country. She has been spreading hate of the West and esp Israel while encamped in Syria. Debbie Schlussel has the scoop on all 3 of these lefty tools!

Also it is BS that the US did not pay for her release, the Iranians got exactly what they wanted out of the treasonous State dept.

Perhaps I’m a bit biased, but it is difficult for me to imagine this young woman, any young woman, being examined by these people. I hope and pray that she and her companions have learned a valuable lesson from this experience.

Thanks for the link.

Sulaimaniya is very beautiful, as are Dohuk and Erbil. I went to Kurdistan in 2006 and it was nothing like the rest of Iraq. We were able to actually walk in the streets to restaurants and shops with no body armor on.

This was back when Baghdad was just freakin' insane. I was up there in Kurdistan on a business trip as we were standing up some camps and coming back to Baghdad was not easy after that. :)

I still think it awfully strange that these people wandered accidentally into Iran...

thanks for the info on your impressions of Kurdistan

yes, and I find it difficult to credit the claim at the link that the 4 had no idea they were so close to the border with Iran???

although from reading a few things online about them just now, it seems plausible that they were idiot-lefties-without-a-clue rather than lefties trying to do something adventuresome for journalism by crossing the Iranian border

I’m wondering if this whole deal was a propaganda stunt by several Berkeley Islamic Americans done for the greater glory of Iran?

I mean of all the places on earth to hike, why would anyone in their right minds pick the Iranian border?

Yes, out of all the mountain ranges in the world, their choice of places to hike and the timing therein seems a little off.

And they came from Syria to do this.

Did they just like hanging out in enemy territory?

I mean, Kurdistan isn't enemy territory, but Syria? And then right up by (and over) the Iranian border?

I've been a little skeptical of this ever since the story broke and I suspect there's quite a bit more to it.

oh I didn’t “expect” anything else -— of course she has to be worried to death for her two friends

anyway, it seems that she is a die-hard pro-jihad anti-Israel lefty who will be happy to provide pro-regime propaganda for the Mullahs

she and her pals were LIVING in Syria for a year (enemy territory) and are firmly aligned with the jihad cult

it won’t take any inducements to get people like that to provide propaganda for Iran

Questions About Released Far-Left Activist “Hiker” Sarah Shourd

By Debbie Schlussel

As you probably know, today, far-left, anti-American, anti-Israel activist “writer” Sarah Shourd was released from Iranian custody in exchange for $500,000 bail.

You know my position on Shourd and her co-horts. As I’ve written, they are far-left, anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian propagandists who lived in Syria–another Muslim, human rights abusing, terrorist-host state for which she served as an apologist and shill, writing gushing articles about the country. (See also, here.) They went hiking in Iran. They lived in Syria. They knew the risks, and it’s sad that tax-funded public servants spent oodles of time on them. I’m sorry that Shourd–reports say–may have breast cancer. But that doesn’t change who she is: a shill for Palestinian and Syrian Islamic terrorists. She is an activist (her own self-description), NOT a journalist (not that being a journalist would make her any more important).

And I have a few questions:

In May of 1804 Ian Perdicaris was kidnapped for ransom by a Moroccan, Mulai Ahmed er Raisuli.

Teddy Roosevelt said,”This government wants Perdicaris alive or Raisuli dead.” He then sent the Marines to handle it. In the old days this is how kidnapping was handled.

I don’t expect to see that kind of strength shown in this day and age.

I'd much prefer a US President who pummeled these savages into submission...... unfortunately that TR story may have been more public relations bluster than reality:

"Pedicaris Alive or Raisuli Dead"

at least it did give us a movie vehicle for Candice Bergen and Sean Connery (though I've never seen that one)

Why did we the tax payers have to pay this ransom?

It turns out that we probably didn't. I was making an uneducated guess and further downthread I corrected that.

The DoS insists that the US didn't pay the "bail," but nobody is saying who did.

So, in the spirit of fairness, I suppose I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise.

I’m glad that she was freed. But the $500K (who paid it?) is JIZYA!!!!

Thomas Jefferson fought a war against islamic terrorists (the Barbary Pirates) to stop the need for paying jizya to these terrorists (as previous Administrations had done.)

Despite what the liberals, pseudo-intellectuals, and phony “scholars of islam” say, the US has a noble history of opposing islamic aggression, from early in its history. Our recent history—especially those EVIL anti-Serbian wars—is not so noble. And we Americans—including innocent people who had no part in the anti-Serbian actions, who were ignorant of them, or who opposed them—are paying the price.

It;s time to reverse course, starting with repudiating the muslim in the White House!!!!

As far as I know, that's not a heavy drug-trafficking area. The penalties are very severe for anything related to drugs and I don't believe the land there, while fertile agriculturally, produces anything that would promote that.
