Women more likely than men to accept global warming

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Women tend to accept the scientific consensus on global warming more than men, according to a study by a Michigan State University researcher. The findings ('The effects of gender on climate change knowledge and concern in the American public', Population & Environment, 2010, Volume 32, Number 1, Pages 66-87), challenge common perceptions that men are more scientifically literate, said sociologist Aaron M. McCright.

"Men still claim they have a better understanding of global warming than women, even though women's beliefs align much more closely with the scientific consensus," said McCright, an associate professor with appointments in MSU's Department of Sociology, Lyman Briggs College and Environmental Science and Policy Program.

The study is one of the first to focus in-depth on how the genders think about climate change. The findings also reinforce past research that suggests women lack confidence in their science comprehension.

"Here is yet another study finding that women underestimate their scientific knowledge – a troubling pattern that inhibits many young women from pursuing scientific careers," McCright said.

Understanding how the genders think about the environment is important on several fronts, said McCright, who calls climate change "the most expansive environmental problem facing humanity."

A study by Aaron M. McCright, sociologist at Michigan State University, suggests women are more likely than men to accept the scientific consensus of climate change.

I actually LOL when I read this article.

I can't believe we are paying for these people to teach our kids.

And more persuaded by emotional arguments. That’s why a man and a woman form a pair, they balance each other out, as God intended.

Interesting theory with a backwards conclusion. Reality...women are more gullible than men when it comes to doomsday scientific scare tactics.

What women? As a woman who actually knows women, I do not know a single (or married) woman who believes in man made global warming.

Studies show that women and minorities tend to be conformists. They “go with the flow” and don’t spend too many brain cycles questioning what the teevee tells them.

The alleged scientific consensus is total BS and so is the propensity to do meaningful actions which actually reduce global warming, albeit by the 0.000000000000001% which man causes.

For example, I'm the one who turns down the heat in our house and Mrs. Vigilanteman is the one who turns it up. I'm willing to bet that 90% plus of normal heterosexual households are the same. Any takers?

Wow. This is so bad it isn't coherent enough to be called "wrong." I don't even know where to dig in. But then, this potato-head is a sociologist, not a scientist, so I guess there is no surprise.

And I am female, so no one need flame me. I know my weaknesses.

As we mature most of us realize we have gullible tendencies and we try to compensate.

Which is why teenage girls must be guarded like limping sheep.

My mom voted for Obama because she was worried about the economy.

That sounds like a reasonable thought line.

But when I asked her, why she thought O would handle economic issues better than McCain, she could not articulate an answer.

This moron, McCright, is actually studying female vulnerability to consensus pressure, though he apparently doesn't know it.

But what he DOES know is that female love of group association is why more men should be denied a science education.

What's more, he thinks he knows this scientifically.

Which is why teenage girls must be guarded like limping sheep.

Best rule we ever had in our house is absolutely no dating until she turns 16, then she's got to have the guy pick her up at home to meet the father.

The best thing about this rule is the worst guys moved on from the get-go. Those who were left and willing to go through the Dad screening process were generally of much higher quality.

My girls thought the rule was weird at the time, but they thank me for it now.

Read the study - 10:1 he sampled college students.

That is the current trend - easy to get a decent sample of people for $50 each. The lazy way to get data.

Then they make sweeping conclusions that aren’t even close to being supported by the bizarre demographics they have given themselves.

If you think modern “Climate Science” is a joke - imagine how far off target the soft sciences have drifted.
