Fallout after risque cheer controversy (Cheerleader fired)

Madison Heights, Mich. (WXYZ) - Jennifer Tesch's six-year-old daughter has been removed from the Madison Heights Wolverine flag football cheer team.

The Madison Heights mom contacted Action News last month because she was upset about the words to one of her daughter's cheerleading chants.

The cheer she objects to says "our backs ache, our skirts are too tight, we shake our booties from left to right."

League members were outraged, saying it cast a bad light on the league and she should have handled it internally.

The team voted to keep the cheer and voted unanimously to remove the child from the team. The family will get a full refund and they can come back next year on probation if they want.

The team voted to keep the cheer and voted unanimously to remove the child from the team.

That doesn't make a lick of sense.

Don’t you have to sometimes just stand up for what is right?

Sure, stand up for what you believe. Make your case, and if you cannot convince the group of their error - leave peaacefully and gratefully.

But you DO NOT have the right to put a gun to my head and make me obey your decision. That is essentially what this parent is attempting to do. She is trying to force the group to abide by her decision.

When a minority rules a majority - we no longer have freedom, we have a dictatorship.

This is a team of 6 year olds “cheering” about shaking their “booties”. Any parent that wouldn't pull their child from the program and complain loudly has rocks in their heads.

Sure, it makes perfect sense. We have 3-3,000 people in agreement, we have one who refuses to join in on the team. Boot the rebel out and the team moves forward.

No ONE is more important than the team. Remember the old coach’s saying “There is no ME in TEAM”.

We’re talking about trying to make six year old little girls sexual. You’re okay with that???

That isn’t a new cheer. I remember it from my junior high days, except they said “bodies” instead of “booties.” I do have a problem with the idea of 6 year old cheerleaders though.

If one is OK with allowing them to shake their booties at six one should not be surprised at what they are doing with it at sixteen!!

I agree, this team is totally ‘out there’.

But, the team is well within their rights to be as ‘out there’ as they want to be. As long as they are not violating any laws, they can scream profanities and gyrate like little strippers if they want to.

Majority rule - or do we allow a minority to declare the laws if we like the minoritie’s stance; and call it a ‘Dictatorship’ if we don’t?

I do that one as a marching chant with my 5 yr old son. He thinks it’s hilarious. Of course I have a sense of humor.

Maybe it’s just me but I really don’t look at a group of cheerleaders as a team!!!

Sure, and Hamas-linked Islamists have a right to build a mosque near Ground Zero.

Doesn't mean it's a good idea or that people shouldn't speak out against it.

6 yr old Cheerleaders aren’t sexual?

Seems a bit hypocritial to have 6yr old Cheerleaders, and since the word ‘Booty’ is in there - it’s suddenly ‘sexual’? The hip-shaking and tops in their uniform are modest?

You seem to think that a minority dictatorship is the way to go - as long as you like their stance. But, I can promise you that you woult howl if the roles were reversed. If one parent wanted the girls to wear G-strings - and wanted to force the team to do this - you would protest.

I’m consistent. No one individual gets to demand that eveyrone else must abide by their individual moral code. Period. If you don’t like the crowd decision; chose a different crowd.

Or, do we have a single Muslim parent declare that everyone must wear a Burka and cheer ‘Allah Ackbar’?

exactly.

Is this parent correct in complaining? I’d say that the answer probably is ‘yeah’. Not having seen the uniforms the 6yr olds are wearing, or hearing the cheer - I can’t say. But, then again I have a problem sexualizing 6 yr olds by forming a Cheerleading team at that age.

My stance is simple - no one person gets to dictate what everyone else wants to do. If you don’t like what the group does - find another group.

my words are carefully chosen, every one has specific context and meaning.

daddy is there to promulgate the value that permits civilization.

i know this is wrong in the present reality. those who have a mommy but need a daddy outnumber pedophiles, but not by much.

many unknowingly feed the beast that we now call civilization.

determine for yourself where the line is.

Are you really equating forcing a religious standard on girls to making six year old cheerleaders appear sexual? I don’t follow your logic.

My church (Southern Baptist) had kids’ basketball teams (Upward) and cheerleaders. There were a lot of kids involved and the cheers were not sexual in any way. Many little girls love cheerleading and I don’t see anything wrong with it unless they are trying to mimic pro sports cheerleaders.
