New York City officials want to take their smoking ban outdoors. City officials announced new legislation on Wednesday that would outlaw smoking in parks, beaches, marinas, boardwalks That means no smoking in Central Park or on the Coney Island boardwalk. Violators could be issued quality-of-life summonses by the parks department and pedestrian plazas throughout the city.

I hate cigarette buts more than I hate the smoke.
I was recently visiting my son in Santa Monica and went for a run along the grassy area along Ocean. Lots of runners, walkers, people doing yoga.
Also lots of No Smoking signs on the lightposts and throughout the park area.
But after all, it IS California.
Why don’t they just ban the sale of smokes? Why? Because they would lose the taxes they get. Double standards. The only thing that is going on is “control, control, control of the population”.
Well they have done such a good job with illegal drugs, theft, and murder, I guess they need something else to do?
Ah, as always, our nervous, salt-o-phobic, hypocondriacal, dwarfish mayor is right on top of the main issues of the day.
It’s already like this all over southern California. I don’t even bother taking my smokes with me when I leave the house.
I'm not a cig smoker but I sometimes go to the park right here in Manhattan and smoke the biggest cigar I can find. I try to go when it's less crowded to I can find a spot where the wind wont carry the smoke into people's faces.
I often see morons smoking cigs and letting the smoke go right in the faces of kids and families. I often see butts left behind by morons at beaches.
So now, I'm won't be allowed to smoke at parks and beaches because of them?
No laws should restrict the freedom of good people in any way, including drug laws. I don't care how many morons abuse that freedom.
This is America and Americans used to know how to handle morons before we started fearing, importing and subsidizing them.

Does this apply to illegals as well? How do they arrest you for smoking? Smoking without a valid smoking license? At some point they have to write a ticket. So what is stopping you from telling them you are Manual Labor and live at no known address? What are they gonna do, deport you?
Honestly, I can’t wait until a police officer [or other public official] gets shot for trying to enforce stupid laws like this.
I am sick of seeing cig butts all over the place. It is disgusting and it is litter.
I am not saying all smokers do this, but the ones I have seen do.
You can’t smoke anywhere NYC, but you will need one after bending over for Allah.
Instead of smoking you can sit on a bench and hear the sounds of the call to prayer 5 times a day.
Smokers are reaping what they have sown.
(And don’t give us any slippery-slope B.S.)
If NYC parks and beaches are anything like LA’s dog sheit is every place,no word from the health dept. /s
