My first reaction before listening was that all politicians have to make these calls, but are generally not stupid enough to leave a message, but then I listened to the audio and it does sound like some sort of crass shakedown. Can’t imagine that this is legal.
According to the article, it is a misdemenor.
Personally I think that this is another way to betray the country and its people and I think of it as a capital offense.
