Democrats Spending In Delaware (DSCC $85k ad buy for Coons)
National Journal ^ | 9/16/2010 | Reid Wilson

Posted on 09/16/2010 3:55:29 PM PDT by Qbert

Democrats are newly confident about their chances in the First State, but that doesn't mean the party won't have to spend money to hold on to the seat.

The DSCC has made an $85K ad buy in the Salisbury, MD, media market, sources who watch ad spending tell Hotline On Call. That market covers the southern portion of Delaware, where marketing consultant Christine O'Donnell performed strongly in her primary win on Tuesday.

The DSCC refused to comment, citing a policy against confirming the existence of advertising buys.

O'Donnell's stunning primary win on Tuesday over Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) was considered a break for Democrats. Castle, who has been in Delaware politics for 4 decades, was considered by most analysts to be the strongest general election candidate in the GOP field.

With O'Donnell as the nominee, New Castle Co. Exec. Chris Coons (D) goes into the general election as the front runner. The Democrats' ad buy, however, suggests that it isn't taking anything for granted given the volatility of the electorate.

I trust that Christine has an A+ campaign team assembled and ready to rumble because the Rats will hold nothing back on this race.

The Democrats are scared to death of this one and they know they will lose with the momentum O’Donnell has. The other problem for the Dems is the money they have to burn for this one.

Would be nice if Cronyn would step up with some NRSC cash and match the ‘rats...

Coons was hand picked to give Castle an easy walk to the Senate, where he would then promptly switch parties and caucus with the Democrats.

That was the deal they made.

Now Democrats are stuck with Coons, and the deal is moot.

Christine O’Donnell is not the weak candidate in this race.
Coons is. He was hand picked for that very quality.
We can do this.

I looked at the DE SOS sight and it said the democrat turnout was 12%.

It was 32% for the GOP.

Christine has already collected more than 1 million dollars in less than 48 hrs, she doesn’t need that lousy NRSC money. Money will NOT be a problem for ODonnell.

One million dollars raised in the blink of an eye will do that to people. :-)

Christine is now closing in on $1.25 million since yesterday morning just through her own personal fundraising. I’d heard DeMint has generated another %150k through his fundraising vehicle and the NRSC (spit) another $42,500. Almost $1.5 mill since yesterday I’m aware of. She only spent I believe just over $300,000 on the primary. She should have more than enough to run a very strong campaign.

She’s really turned the Coons advantage of $940,000 upside down in the past 24 hours.

Heh, not really sure that money is going to buy this year’s election. Maybe it’s high time that policies and ideas actually matter more than money spent on ads.

Sometimes I wonder just how money spent trumpeting a particular candidate without specifying their policy ideals works at all. Well, this year, it will matter!

I just don’t think that the voters are a bunch of idiots that will continue to go along with this administration’s policies of spending and socialization of America.

I not only hope that I’m right but will actively participate in Tea Party solutions... Do the same...

They already stated they’ll give to her. I’m not sure about the amount.

It should be real interesting to watch Coons fundraising now. Will the big RAT donors pump the dough in, or will they cut and run and let him swing on his own?

Amazing!

(I could be wrong, but I don’t think there has been this level of fundraising enthusiasm since Palin got the VP nom...)

The sweet thing is the dims have so many races they’re in trouble with they’ll have to really prioritize and they’re not all that motivated. They’ve lost that drive they had in 08. Like the llttle dutch boy who only has so many fingers to plug all those holes in the dike they’re not going to be able to adequately fund all these races. Hence Coons earlier today pleading on Daily Kos (I think it was Kos) for donations. Evidently the natives weren’t in that much of a giving mood.

Looks like Christine is going to self fund pretty easily, but the rats will sink a lot of money into this race as they definitely think it’s winnable. Bidens’ seat is one they think of as a birthright.

Although they originally hemmed and hawed, Cornyn said yesterday that the NRSC would donate the maximum allowed (42,000 or so?) to O’Donnell. I’m sure it’s through gritted and gnashing teeth after having been shamed into doing the right thing.

Won’t matter anyway. O’Donnell raised something like $750,000 yesterday alone.

I am sure you’re right. Just goes to show how jazzed up the country really is to vote out the libs and the RINO’s.
