Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."
The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.
Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.
"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.
"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."
Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.
She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

I’ll donate.
Thank You Sarah.
What time is it?
‘CUDA TIME!!!
Since Obama is a Muslim (see the video of him on ABC NEWS’ This Week from 2008 where he slips up and says “John McCain has not made an issue of my Muslim faith) would he have to “off” himself if a woman beat him in an election?
I think if you are disgraced and defeated by a female in Islam, then you have to “off” yourself but I’m not positive.
There she goes again, promoting gun violence...
Karl Rove and the RNC will go bananas.
Between her picks largely winning the primaries, and that statement, the 2010 mid-term general elections could turn into a referendum on Palin 2012.
Too early Sarah...let they court you. Be coy. Play hard to get.
LOL! and a keeper, right next to the shining shoes one. Thanks!
And so continues the SARAHlution!!!! We are taking back our country and Sarah is leading the way!!!! YES WE WILL!!!! YES WE WILL!!!!!! YES WE WILL!!!!!!!!
SAR-AH, 20-12!
SAR-AH, 20-12!
SAR-AH, 20-12!
She has to wait until the beginning of the year. Her Discovery series and FOX gig would be considered illegal. Both end at end of year.
no she’s promoting socialism, look at how the said “give”. Its code word
The keyword in that sentence is "if" but I for one believe she truly is "the one".
Partly I would say don’t because of what the other side will do to her, but they will anyway.
She did that ages ago, sarahpac
anyway...
RUN SARAH RUN!
Expect her to be unloaded upon by the regulars of both parties.
If you guys think this is anything new. This is from 1999 and recalling 1996.

Have you heard these words before?
“I could not support him and I will not support him. But don’t worry, he won’t be the nominee. If he is the nominee, there will be a third party”
Strong words, are they not? The average Republican might guess that these are the words of Senator Bob Smith or Pat Buchanan, and that the subject of the threat is George W. Bush.
Guess again. That divisive and hell-to-pay language sprang from the jowls of William Bennett not long ago. The unofficial spokesman of the GOP (and others like him) repeated this threat many times before there was a clear winner during that primary season. The year was 1996, and the subject of Bennett’s scorn was, of course, that pesky conservative Pat Buchanan. (American Political Network; 2/28/1996)
During these times of coalition-building and third-party fever, Republicans are wringing their hands and cursing conservatives. Republican leaders are worried that all this bickering about inconvenient principles will break up of the Republican Party...and indirectly secure a victory for a different power-structure.

lol
no they wouldn’t
ROFL
you telling me a candidate can’t have a job?
ROFL
You can be too coy. There’s money to raise, state party organizations to court. Mario Cuomo and Fred Thompson played it coy too. I trust her instincts on this.
“RUN SARAH RUN!”
AMEN!!!!!!
RUN SARAH RUN!
RUN SARAH RUN!
BOLD AND BRIGHT, A RISING STAR, FROM THE LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN,
A NATION IN NEED IS LOOKING FOR YOU TO RUN.....
SARAH RUN!
She’s running. My hope is that she announces November 3rd. It would make Christmas especially sweet.
That works for me. W00t!
Man, heads are going to be exploding EVERYWHERE! We are living through remarkable times.....take a moment everyone...and think about it!
Defunding ObamaCare would be a great start.
Definetly we are witnessing history.
No 2008 retreads. Mike Pence, Mitch Daniels, and Haley Barbour would get my vote before Palin.
I will contribute, too. More than I’ve given to any cause since my church re-roofed their building. I will bring forth lots of bucks to get the word out about this righteous lady.
Dear Lord, I hope it’s true.
Just as Carter resulted in Reagan, maybe Obama will result in Palin.
If she runs she’ll be the first person since Ronald Reagan worthy of a donation. Let’s roll.
Do you really think ANY of those guys could fill a stadium like Palin?
....
Didn't think so. If Palin runs, she wins, unless for some unknown reason she bombs in the debates.
Exactly what she is doing...no firm commitment; but the 'hint' of a run will have the lame stream media peeing in their pants for weeks...get the popcorn, folks.
Wow! This is exciting!
The election is two years out and in Presidential politics two years is a minimum to get the job done.
I’ll donate.... LOTS and I’ll support her 1000% IF and only if she is willing to be the Barracuda she says she is. That means she has to go after Odumba$$ with a vengeance. Expose him, criticize him, mock him.
If she runs I will donate to her, help raise money for her, do everything I can to help her win. She will make a GREAT President..I would love for her to say after she wins that she has to fix all the crap that she “Inherited from Obama” that outta get the media crapping in their pants
Sarah, you have to give it more than a shot. Do not sound as though the fire isn’t in the belly.
This comment sounds like Fred.
Two years is a huge leap into the future, no eggs in any basket yet....not here anyway.
They WILL sandbag her. We have the proof of that.
We don't need a Republican Obama (although she's more qualified than Obama by far as he'd be a coffee gopher where I work.) We need the anti-Obama who oozes competence in day to day operations.
Deeds, not words.
The other 'prospective' Republican presidential candidates have been invisible and don't inspire anyone. Frankly, they are old school, go-along-get-along Republicans, for the most part, and their day has passed. Sara Palin is the face of the Republican future; conservative, authentic and charismatic. Did I mention 'conservative'...the key word, here. I hope Sarah Palin runs for president in 2012. I'll support her and I'll vote for her. We need this woman in the White House.
She didn’t run for president in 2008 like Myth Romney and Gomer Huckleberry, she was chosen as the VP nominee by the 2008 presidential nominee, so she’s not a “retread” as you put it, so you can get behind her, based on your statement. Messrs. Pence, Daniels and Barbour aren’t in the running and aren’t likely to be.
Exactly.
She’s doing so well now — why upset the apple cart?
I love and would support her, but just DREAD the media circus that will ensue. I am only being honest about that.
Sarah Palin is strong conservative woman. There is no other person in the Republican camp who can draw attention and crowds like she can. I’m liking what I see from her. As it stands today, no one comes close to her.
Not exactly what I meant but your point is well taken too.
“Too early Sarah...let they court you. Be coy. Play hard to get.”
I agree. She should hold off for awhile. It is to early.
ROTFLMAO!!
