A scientist and his wife who both worked at the leading US nuclear research facility were arrested Friday and charged with trying to pass nuclear arms secrets to Venezuela, the US Department of Justice said. The pair, both Americans, "have been indicted on charges of communicating classified nuclear weapons data to a person they believed to be a Venezuelan government official and conspiring to participate in the development of an atomic weapon for Venezuela," the department said in a statement.
The defendants, Pedro Mascheroni, 75, and Marjorie Roxby Mascheroni, 67, could face life in prison if convicted on all charges.

A Public Hanging would be me fun, and would serve as a reminder to the other traitors living here.
What’s Bammys take on all this?
Poor Pedro! If he’d done his homework, he would have known that a real Venezuelan agent could just get the data from a Rodent congressional staffer or the Clintons.
Life in prison doesn’t cut it. Hanging should always be the consequence of treason.
Bammy says... Hey honey — where shall we fly to for dinner next week?
Hussein will probably give them both a full pardon, and a non-taxable pension.
Any FReeper who buys CITGO gasoline is funding Chavez and his Communist buddies.
I’d walk 100 miles through the NV desert in the middle of the summer wearing a snowmobile suit and Mukluk boots before I’d stop at a CITGO gas station for one drop of gas.
Firing squad, hanging, boil ‘em in oil.
Mascheroni is an Italian name, not Spanish.
Interesting ...
“Both Americans.” I heard Pedro speak on TV . He has a heavy foreign accent. Sounded like a Spanish-speaker’s accent. (I know the name is Italian, but Italians emigrated to Latin America as well as the USA. Argentina alone hosted millions of Italian immigrants.)
Suddenly the DOJ has credibility here??
Treat them like they did the Rosenbergs in the early 50’s
Firing squad at sunrise tomorrow, just like they would do it in Venezuela.
A nuclear capable vuvuzela would be bad, really bad.
Shouldn’t there be some criminal responsibility on the part of the person who granted them their “Q” clearance? Seems like they weren’t exactly poster children deserving anything near a Q clearance, and probably were granted such access so as not to discriminate against naturalized citizens. Long past time to do away with political correctness with high level clearances. Moreover, they could cancel 75% of the high level clearances with little if any disruption. It seems like everyone wants as high a clearance as possible as a status symbol. I am an insider so I know of what I speak.
What is the maximum penalty for espionage? They should at least get what Jonathan Pollard got.
And means, appropriately enough, 'big masks."
Many questions here. We still have 75 year old scientists working in nuclear weapons labs? And what were their Kos and DU screen names?
