A group probing whether President Obama is addressing matters of concern to African Americans will discuss the issue Saturday at the annual conference of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation hours before Obama is scheduled to address conference attendees.
Political scientist Ron Daniels formed the Shirley Chisholm Presidential Accountability Commission in late 2008 as a mechanism for black leaders to hold the nation's first black president accountable. Eventually, the group hopes to issue a report card that grades the administration on how well it is doing in closing racial disparities.
The commission is named after the first African American woman elected to Congress and the first woman to seek the Democratic nomination for president.
It wasn't formed in reaction to Obama, Daniels said. But members intend to address a growing debate within the nation's black communities over whether African American leaders should demand more from Obama on specific issues.
"The subtext is that there seems to be some hesitancy - to put it mildly - on the part of the Obama administration to overtly address issues of race," Daniels said. "There is talk about a rising tide lifts all boats. But if there is unevenness in terms of how the boats are situated, then maybe you should look at that instead of some across the board notion."
...Daniels, along with some members of the Congressional Black Caucus, or CBC, has called on the White House to push for initiatives specifically targeting minorities, such as job programs to address high black unemployment.

My Lord in heaven...when are we ever not talking about racism. It's all they ever talk about. When they aren't talking about racism, they are talking about "not talking" about racism. There is room for little else in their thought process.

I don't know Ron Daniels -- but there's nothing scientific about politics; it's art, not science, and most of it is BAD art. Duplicitous art.
I understand the black intelligentsia's fears on the matter of saddling a paranoid, thin-skinned, timid little ninny of a president with racial issues. That's a delicate dilemma: they want to play the race card with him, but don't dare, lest they make him appear to be a racial president (he is one; but doesn't want to be perceived that way -- all very delicate, you see).
So he will solve the problem as he always does -- he will go to them and speak a few words in their dialect (to show that he is still "down" for the cause); and they will be eating from his hand again, just like peasants in Venezuela receiving candy and cigars thrown from a flatbed truck by hugo chavez.

Which generally fail. The lack of emphasis on "shame" allows the welfare recipients, black, white, whatever, to continue to accept putting their hand in the till of America. Its like gangbangers, they don't need self-esteem or encouragement, they need public shame and ridicule, and a few whacks upside the head from their shameless, absentee whore-like fathers...
Shifting blame becomes an intellectual challenge when the boss is black. Finally, a problem worthy of the African-American Studies community.
Planck brought us the quanta, Einstein relativity, Pasteur the germ theory of disease. Elmer Sperry loved gyroscopes, and used them to invent the autopilot. Chester Carlson was a physicist and patent attorney who invented the Xerox machine. Took him about 12 years to get anyone to pay him the slightest attention. His wife left him. He lived in a few dumps during that time.
And then you have the A-A studies community, who look out across the quad from their offices and think about how terrible is their struggle.
I think it is great how thse black groups can form alliances to work for blacks.
Now why can’t whites do that without being called bigots, racists and skinheads?
These people are relatives of former slaves. Terminology is important here. Not handouts, reparations.
In actuality the closest they ever were to slavery was pulling the cotton out of a bottle of aspirin.
How about voting for Republicans in 2010 and 2012? That will show Obama how disappointed they are.
Responsible blacks and whites should probe whether President Obama is addressing matters of concern to all responsible American citizens without regard of, or favoritism for, skin color.
The others should get off their lazy butts, put down their video game controllers, stop their whining, stop making babies they won’t support with partners they won’t marry and figure out a way to stop sucking their living from the blood of productive citizens.
