Montana GOP policy: Make homosexuality illegal
Associated Press ^ | 09/18/2010 | MATT VOLZ,

At a time when gays have been gaining victories across the country, the Republican Party in Montana still wants to make homosexuality illegal.

The party adopted an official platform in June that keeps a long-held position in support of making homosexual acts illegal, a policy adopted after the Montana Supreme Court struck down such laws in 1997.

The fact that it's still the official party policy more than 12 years later, despite a tidal shift in public attitudes since then and the party's own pledge of support for individual freedoms, has exasperated some GOP members.

"I looked at that and said, 'You've got to be kidding me,'" state Sen. John Brueggeman, R-Polson, said last week. "Should it get taken out? Absolutely. Does anybody think we should be arresting homosexual people? If you take that stand, you really probably shouldn't be in the Republican Party."

Gay rights have been rapidly advancing nationwide since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Texas' sodomy law in 2003's Lawrence v. Texas decision. Gay marriage is now allowed in five states and Washington, D.C., a federal court recently ruled the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy unconstitutional, and even a conservative tea party group in Montana ousted its president over an anti-gay exchange in Facebook.

But going against the grain is the Montana GOP statement, which falls under the "Crime" section of the GOP platform. It states: "We support the clear will of the people of Montana expressed by legislation to keep homosexual acts illegal."

Montana GOP executive director Bowen Greenwood said that has been the position of the party since the state Supreme Court struck down state laws criminalizing homosexuality in

I don't approve of homosexuality, but am willing to let the Lord decide the proper punishment for sin.

Even as recently as the 1960’s, the police would raid gay bars and arrest the patrons. Much as I dislike those kinds of places, the social mores they instill, and the public health consequences, I'm just enough of a libertarian to think our judicial system shouldn't be spending its time and taxpayer money arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning homosexuals.

Time is late, and there are more critical demands for limited time and resources.

so are you alright with homosexuals marrying?
buying, adopting and raising children?
have it taught in schools?
alright with homosexuals holding hands and kissing in public?

Just a simple yes or no would suffice please

Yes, both homosexual and heterosexual in public should be prohibited by law.

However, we do not need the Nanny State to monitor our private bedrooms to determine what consenting adults may be doing.

Montana GOP needs to change their platform.

No they don't. FR has the same rules. Anyone pushing the homosexual agenda is out of here.

The 14th Amendment was never intended to cover making all behavior equal though. Or making all beliefs equal either. Especially some sort of sexual belief system.

If the 14th Amendment was used to force people to accept certain behavior and thus deny them a right to have representation on how that behavior or belief was dealt with in public then it would be denying EQUAL rights to representation for ALL.

So in other words that left-wing interpretation of the 14th Amendment would be FORCING a minorities political and moral views on the majority and would be being used to deny equal rights for ALL.

Just because you can identify yourself by your behavior does not mean that your behavior deserves to have the government force everyone else to accept it.

I haven’t commented on the absurdity of the part of the party platform.

I suppose if the party found these acts particularly antisocial, they would seek to make those heterosexual acts illegal, too.

Someone has to “take the first shot”. I would be honored to vote homo illegal.

And no doubt you'll be out there peeking in windows and turning them in.

“Homosexuals now perform these acts in public during parades and fairs.”

Yes. Again, as far as I know, functionally undisguised carnal knowledge is still illegal for both hetero and homosexuals.

Why this law is not always enforced is another issue.

Because the law also prohibits them from promoting their private bedroom acts in public as well which is what perverts like you like to do in our PUBLIC areas all of the time.

Obviously you support the open expression of perversion in public. to our children and everywhere.

If it was only in private you were concerned about then there would be no need for you to post here publically about your desire to protect expression of what you do in private.

“The 14th Amendment was never intended to cover making all behavior equal though.”

Well, that is not the way Justice Kennedy saw it when he wrote the majority opinion in Lawrence v. Texas.

most in this country do not want the homosexual agenda, states which have had votes have proved this.

This is still a normal traditional country, it is a shame the homosexuals and their supporters who usually say I have a homosexuals friend and they are nice cannot wake the hell up and understand that they are looked at as people who do unnatural disgusting acts to get off sexually

BTW if you are here defending homosexuality and it’s agenda then be warned you will be banned.

The GOP should not change it’s platform what so ever and as for saying homosexuals(not gay so don’t play the far lefts word game) are conservative then that is total B/S

It isn’t enforced because libs have an agenda and push homosexual rights. Homosexuals need to STHU and go back in the closet. I don’t CARE what they do in private and I don’t need to see them fondling and kissing one another in public. Neither do children.
