Britain goes halal... but no-one tells the public: ritually slaughtered meat served with no warning
The Mail (UK) ^ | 18th September 2010 | Simon Mcgee and Martin Delgado

A Mail on Sunday investigation – which will alarm anyone concerned about animal cruelty – has revealed that schools, hospitals, pubs and famous sporting venues such as Ascot and Twickenham are controversially serving up meat slaughtered in accordance with strict Islamic law to unwitting members of the public.

All the beef, chicken and lamb sold to fans at Wembley has secretly been prepared in accordance with sharia law, while Cheltenham College, which boasts of its ‘strong Christian ethos’, is one of several top public schools which also serves halal chicken to pupils without informing them.

Even Britain’s biggest hotel and restaurant group Whitbread, which owns the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre chains, among many others, has admitted that more than three-quarters of its poultry is halal.

Animal welfare campaigners have long called for a ban on the traditional Islamic way of preparing meat – which involves killing animals by drawing a knife across their throats, without stunning them first – saying it is cruel and causes unnecessary pain.

Sharia law expressly forbids knocking the animal out with a bolt gun, as is usual in British slaughterhouses. Instead, it must be sentient when its throat is cut, and the blood allowed to drip from the carcass while a religious phrase in praise of Allah is recited.

The extent of halal meat consumption, even in areas of Britain with a very small Muslim population, was revealed as the Pope, on his first visit to Britain, expressed fears that the country was not doing enough to preserve traditional Christian values and customs.

[snip]

But it is animal rights groups which have been most vociferous in their opposition to halal slaughter...

How awful: they treat innocent cattle the same way they treat us nasty infidels and apostates. :o\

The good news is that British people are finally noticing and objecting.

This is a tough one. Side with the animal activists and groups such as PETA or with Islam and halal.

You mean MP Enoch Powell right?

Years ago I remember somebody running his “rivers of blood” speech in here. In it's day it was mocked and now it becomes words of truth.

Amazing!

So that the butcher can get the most sadistic pleasure from the process? WTH?

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome. -- Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 [London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899]).

Should be referred to as the People’s Republic of the Islamic State of England, henceforth. Peace be with you.

To my knowledge “halal” meat is the result of allowing most of the blood to be drained by means of cutting the jugular veins
and carotid arteries of the slaughtered animal. The idea being that blood harbors germs.

Have no idea what makes anything “kosher”.

Similar, yet different.

I've had Muslim associates eat Kosher in the states when there is no other options.

Obviously, in other areas of the world, is SE Asia, Halal, is pretty much the standard.

If I could, I put a Chick-fil-a in Singapore. Talk about making a killing. Chinese, Indian[No beef], Malay. Everyone loves chicken!

That's one of the reason, KFC is so popular.

Not everyone...

I got something like eight stitches across a couple of fingers after cleaning out a hen house and butchering something like 500 of those birds. It was the last one that “got” me, right down to the bones.

Don’t eat chicken, although I would bury them to prevent our mutts from bringing them indoors, but I do eat eggs.

Sometimes, genocide is good.

The rest of the article points out that while a lamb might bleed to death in 5 to 7 seconds, a cow might suffer for several minutes as the carotid artery spasms and holds blood in the brain and allows feeling.

I am wondering if they also cut the vessels of chickens, whereas we cut the head off, immediately ending any feeling. The rest of the article also pointed out that one establishment imports a lot of its chicken from Turkey. Will they boycott imported halal meats if the public gets serious about protesting?

The ritual slaughter in Jewish (and Muslim?) law is an ideal method of slaughter that results in the swiftest and most painless method of killing. Since Jewish dietary law also requires sanguination to prevent consumption of the blood, cutting the carotid also results in swift draining of the blood. Obviously these laws were put into place prior to chemical or electric “stunning” were available, and given the option of beating the animal to death, it was then (and still is) a humane method of slaughter.....however archaic in our hi-tech society which has found more efficient assembly line methods.
