A mural approved by the Public Arts Commission under the Green Street bridge is causing a minor uproar after Underground Railroad leader Harriet Tubman leader was described as Comrade Tubman. In an interview, the artist said his goal is developing a socialist movement in the United States.

Where has this ding-dong been? Developing a Socialist movement. Uhh did he notice who occupies the White House?
Harriet Tubman was obviously an outspoken activist in abolitionism as well as postwar civil rights. She also actively campaigned for women’s suffrage . But she lived in NY for the bulk of the early, radical socialist labor movement and never involved herself in any of it. She was a devout AME Christian, and the openly anti-Christian nature of the movement likely disgusted her.
