Very odd case going on here. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

“... some legal advice ahead of the trial, set to start in January 2012.”
Another thing wrong with our government ... waiting over a year for justice.

Looks like the hospital was secular? If this actually happened in a secular hospital, the folks assigning Christian homework should be canned.

Well, you don’t necessarily make yourself popular with your superiors by going around making trouble. I think that it would be enough to report the dirty conditions. If your superior shrugs it off, there’s not much that a junior apprentice can do about it—at least not until getting some sort of job security.
Using a cell phone to take a photo and complaining again would just annoy the superior.
Yes, the superior was wrong. You shouldn’t allow filthy conditions in a hospital. And you have no right to bring religion into it if this is not specifically a religious hospital—and maybe not even then if the apprentice is not a trainee nun or something.
So, the trainee lost her job because she made trouble and refused to back off. It’s not a trainee’s job to do that. But she may well win a lawsuit.

Since when do supervisors make you do "homework"?
And why do I have the feeling that the real reason she was behind on her work was that she was chatting on the phone?

That's where you get nailed. I'm a 21 year veteran at my job; I'm middle management. I know everybody pretty much (at least on my first shift; 600 people.) But we have super tight security (It's a pharma manufacturing facility.) Policy is, no cameras, no camera phones.
Mine stays in the console in my car. I don't need an innocent cell phone call to destroy my career.

Odd case indeed......I used to be affiliated with Clarian.....their employee orientation is something I will never forget. You can get fired if you smoke even in your own home or if someone sees you out and about on your own time you can get fired...... the representatives from some of the departments were very unprofessional and just plain mean....I don't smoke and I would be working off campus so I knew some of the idiots there would not effect me but I felt like Clarian represented communism.......

Corporatism IS Collectivism IS Communism
Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of corporate and government power.
