Wonder why he didn’t put it in Texas? We only have three small screens.

I used to do that kind of work, for like 12 years. Probably installed over a mile of stainless steel flue liners. A darn good investment in safety.

Just re-built my chimney for my wood/coal burner this past summer. I used cement “chimney blocks” and a clay liner. Never even gave a thought to S/S liners. I use the Chimney Sweeper logs twice during the season(middle and end). I’m not expecting any problems but since you were in the business, anything I should watch for in particular or will normal yearly inspection and cleaning do?

By chimney blocks do you mean “fire bricks”?

Clear and cool (low 20’s this morning) but warm up to 80’s expected this weekend.

Picks are almost done for the race but I’ll change again as I always over think my selections. Hoping for a good race; one more bad one for J.J. and he can kiss #5 good-bye.

I read that NASCAR is taking a second look at Bowyer’s car (after the previous close-to-tolerance warning) that he won w/this last weekend. If you’re not pushing the envelope then you’re not trying.

One more remark like that and I will again command Diamond Lake to erupt...

These are the chimney blocks

Photobucket

These are the clay liners that fit snugly into the center of the blocks.

My bottom liner has a cut-out to accommodate the flu pipe from my furnace

Mrs. HDX2 feels your pain about J.J. I can assure you she does NOT have a J.J. pin-cushioned #48 car. Need I remind you of this:

We hit monsonal rain storms going over the passes both going to and coming coming from Portland. We'll we were gone Bend had a newsworthy 5 hour lightning/rain show but it's really pleasant here this week. It was just announced yesterday that Portland had their coolest summer in 17 years this year; I know it's no fun donning scuba gear to go get the mail - unless you're in Hawaii.

Do you use re-bar to tie the blocks together? There are still many chimneys that have not been rebuilt here since our 6.5 quake in Jan of this year. How much is triple wall S/S flue pipe these days? I think it got up to $100 for three feet a few years ago

Nah. It's external and is tied to the structure at the joints. Very low pitch roof, so not a great deal above the eaves.

They threw the book at them - actually lost the race/all points. Their car was borderline in Richmond and were warned, so I’m guessing there’s no excuse.

I drove home from the big city today in a rain storm that was like a white out. It was actually bright out, but it was just pouring buckets. I was about to pull over when it stopped.
