Republican Jeff Perry, a self-proclaimed Tea Party member, said he doesn’t want former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to campaign for him because of the baggage she would bring, after dismissing the former vice presidential candidate as an “entertainer” in a TV interview.
“I don’t want to interject the debate over the national Tea Party with my race about my district,” said Perry, seeking to replace U.S. Rep. William Delahunt. “I’m trying not to interject a national debate that would distract from my message.”

So insulting Palin in a public way is helpful to him ... because it demonstrates a lack of polish and class ... which is what people in Mass. are attracted to?
He could have quietly asked her not to campaign for him without publicly insulting her. Or maybe it’s what I wondered, he has something in his past that won’t look good under the bright lights of national attention. Maybe he doesn’t want O’Reilly screeching at him to come on his show and explain himself.
Palin is a spotlight - I simply wonder if there’s something he doesn’t want lit up.

Not a word to indicate that she even offered. This is effette, selfish, self-promoting blather of the tenth degree.. I wouldn’t vote for this guy for dog crap collector.

The MSM desperately wants to put a face on the Tea Party, so they can use their Alinsyite tactics to marginalize the movement.
Sarah Palin is not the Tea Party and the Tea Party is not Sarah Palin. A lot of Tea Partiers like Sarah Palin (myself included!), but she has nothing to do with it.
Palin probably knows what this guy is doing. He has to win like Scott Brown did.
These statements might help pull in some democrats.
Since when is Palin the Queen of the Tea Party for crying out loud. She endorsed Ayotte in NH but the Tea Party candidate was LaMontagne.
In certain parts of the country she HURTS the candidates chances especially MA for crying out loud
Fiscal conservativism is something that can very much sell in a blue states (e.g., Scott Brown). On the other hand, Social conservativism strikes many blue states as akin to Big Government telling people how to live their lives. Please don’t shoot the messenger but that’s how the SoCon conservative principles are viewed by many in blue states. Thus, when voters run away from bumbling tax and spend Democrats they run toward the “independent” rather than the Republican. This is why politicians like Deval Patrick ALWAYS have an independent run on the ballot too.
Doesn’t Rush call himself an “entertainer”?
Yes - the choice of words could have been better, but TEA party candidates are typically NOT professional politicians. What I see here is an issue that arose because the candidate wasn’t as polished a politician as he could be.
If Perry is backtracking, we may have reached the level of a “teachable moment”, where he learned something - to watch how he talks about leaders in the conservative/TEA Party movement.
Just my $.02, of course! ;-P
I’m okay with that . . . if this person is better for America than the Dem and if he’s right that Sarah would energize the opposition without motivating patriotic Americans.
She’s the perky cheerleader in the Republican Party. The sorority sister to the frat boy Rove.

This is Massachusetts. People up there sent a murderer to the Senate. They sent Barney Frank to the House,They keep electing a gigolo traitor to the Senate John F’in Kerry,it isn’t surprising that this man believes that distancing himself from Sarah palin is the right thing to do to get elected there.
He is probably right, the easiest way to get elected in Massachusetts is to drown a woman or kill a wounded Viet Cong, or be a homosexual pimp, running homo prostitutes out of your basement.
A stupid little man to insult a major Republican political figure when there was no reason at all to speak in those terms.
He said he misspoke and I didn’t like it either. Dig not too deep and you’ll find he’s another kind of questionable tea party candidate who wasn’t thoroughly vetted. But believe me, he lives in fear of the Palin question every time he makes an appearance and if he says anything that can be construed as positive about it he will pay for it.
Sarah Palin is just an entertainer — the old attack-through-dismissive-superiority trick.
That said, I’m not trying to attack him - it was just my first thought when I read this post. Having seen what Christine O’Donnell is going through, if he has anything in his past, he will run from the national spotlight.
The obvious reason for him to backhand/dismiss Sarah Palin is to pander to voters. But why do that and risk alienating a portion of voters who like her? He needs every vote he can get, right? To me, it makes me wonder if there was another reason for him to dismiss her in such an arrogant way. “Please don’t attack me! I hate Sarah Palin!”

Well he had no probelem bring on stage with Sarah back in April when she was in Boston.
Perry appeared with Romney a month ago. In April Perry shared the stage with Palin at a Tea Party event. I would surmise Romney has made a deal with Perry. This is disappointing. I do understand that Sarah is not popular here in the People’s Republic but to come out and say this is a big letdown
