I hear ya. I will eventually get some wheels.

That's the spirit. The spirit of America.

Put up a vanity when you get your ride. I'll want to congratulate you.

Well, I’m not insisting anyone else go carless, I’m just saying I have and it’s not a big deal. I live in West Hollywood, I work downtown, I hang out in Bev Hills, Weho, or Century City. My friends live near me. We do stay pretty local most of the time, but I can usually get to where I want to go by bus. It does help that I’m a good walker and not much interested in going out late at night.

Not a big deal for you.

For most Angelenos, being carless would make life unbearably hard, if not downright impossible to manage.

Heck, even our great-great-grandparents had personal transportation, although they had to feed and horseshoe them.

Well, every day the buses are full of people who are clearly also surviving in L.A. without a car. It can be done, and I don’t know why you’re acting like me saying this is somehow threatening to you. Thousands of Angelenos don’t have cars. I know. I see them every day. On the bus. Why are you freaking out that I’m saying this, I’m not coming to take YOUR car away.

Who's freaking out? I just want you to see that you made a blanket assumption when you said, "it's no big deal."

I was simply making the point that for most people in Los Angeles, being without personal transport is a very big deal.

Yes, I know that there are thousands of people on the bus lines every day, but most of them are making the best of a very bad situation. They'd change it in a heartbeat, if they could. I've been there, so I do know what I'm talking about.

Some few people have a lifestyle that doesn't absolutely require personal transport. I'm aware of that, too. My mom and an aunt are in that number, but their lives are the exception, not the norm. Being carless doesn't negatively impact their lives, as apparently, it doesn't affect yours.

Speaking of making blanket assumptions...

RE: “Did you attend, hole? Where’s the report?”

*********************

I’m not the person you addressed but here’s MY report:

Arrived in the 99 degree heat at 1:15 p.m. — probably 60 people there already - start time was 2.

So so hot — horrible, worst heat wave of the year in So.Cal.— Pat Boone was practicing the song he wrote for the BH Tea Party.

A few brave souls gathered at the street to hold signs and flags and were rewarded by mostly supportive honks and thumbs up. As crowd grew, all shady places were taken but lots of sunny area was bereft of people, naturally.

Program started and there were many speakers — Pat Boone, of course, Victoria Jackson, numerous candidates for Congress, and at the end of the event, Michael Savage spoke as well as two Hollywood producers and, for me, the best: Andrew Breitbart.

There was no discernable opposition that I could see and the biggest concern for BH police was a few signs on sticks and putting candidates’ signs into the ground which is a no-no. If they held the signs, fine — just nothing in the ground.

Tee-shirts and caps were selling well as was cold water for just $1. Lots of material available on local congressional and other races — stickers, buttons, pamphlets, etc.

If you go to the Beverly Hills Tea Party website you can see more about who the speakers were — I missed some of them due to standing on the curb with some others, rallying the passersby.

I would say that for such a miserable weather day, the turnout was terrific — hundreds were there — I can’t estimate but would guess 300 - 400 in that small park. I know there would’ve been many more had weather cooperated. It was like an oven out there the entire time. Not one cool breeze all afternoon.

The program ran overtime and BH wanted event to end but Pat Boone said he would pay out of his pocket to keep it going the extra hour so all speakers could at least be introduced if not given enough time to speak more than a couple of sentences. Thank you, Pat!

As usual, tea party attendees left the area as clean as it was when it started, and the police seemed to be enjoying themselves. One fracas did occur — a visiting dog (there were a handful) bit someone so police sought out the bad canine citizen and his/her owner. Other than that, NO problems at all besides the intense heat.

Media was there and stayed — unusual but since this was Bev Hills and celebs were there, they stuck around.

Tonight I will attend a debate between Republican candidate for congress in my area, who spoke yesterday, and long term Dem Howard Berman, some 30 years in office and can always be counted on to toe the party line. The young candidate, Merlin Froyd, is a fabulous speaker and I heard that Berman has reneged on appearing. I am NOT surprised —

All in all, the BH Tea Party event was a resounding success and I had no camera with me but there were a few typical tea party signs and one huge wide sign held up at the street which read: “NO MORE SOCIALISM” and got dozens of thumbs up and honks when people drove by and realized what was going on in that park. Some people passing by yelled that they were going to park and stop by, spur of the moment — it was that kind of uplifting event!

Kudos to all who made this party possible and to all who attended!
