HELENA, Mont. – A Montana woman fended off a bear trying to muscle its way into her home Thursday by pelting the animal with a large piece of zucchini from her garden.

The woman suffered minor scratches and one of her dogs was wounded after tussling with the 200-pound bear.

The National Park Rangers are advising hikers in Glacier National Park and other Rocky Mountain parks to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter.
They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause a bear to charge.
Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bears sensitive nose and it will run away.
Zucchini has been know to be an effective weapon against bears so arm yourself with a large zucchini......
It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat.
Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells, zucchini and smell of pepper.

I tried not to retain anything but the basics. But I can tell you this: do not go into hotel saunas.

Oh, what a beauty
I've never seen one as big as that before
Oh! Oh! what a beauty
It must be 3 feet long or maybe more
It's such a marvelous color, so round and big and fat
I've never seen a zuchini grow quite as big as that
Oh, what a beauty
I've never seen one as big as that before

Real funny when Tim Curry sang it.

Excellent!

I might have been lured into a sense of false security by wearing bells, carrying OC and zucchini.

Everyone around here carries hard yellow squash, in a shoulder rig with a Baby Boo pumpkin in their boot. Now I know why.

Maybe that’s why Derek Smalls carried that cucumber with him all the time.

I guess one of these would squash an unwelcome intruder.

Wow. Look at the size of that man's zucchini. No wonder he's grinning from ear to ear. The little lady seems to be having a hard time holding back a smile herself.
