Gillibrand race closer than expected: polls

WASHINGTON – Two stunning new polls show appointed first-term Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand with a race on her hands – and one has her clinging to a one-point lead over Republican Joe DioGuardi.

Gillibrand leads her opponent by a margin of just 45-44 among likely voters in the SurveyUSA poll, which has her carrying the five boroughs but losing upstate.

In another new poll by Quinnipiac University, Gillibrand leads DioGuardi 48-42 among likely voters. That poll has independent voters splitting nearly evenly between the two candidates, with 41 percent for Gillibrand and 42 percent for DioGuardi.

Both show Gillibrand’s closest margin of the cycle against the former member of Congress form Westchester.

But in a sign of volatility in the electorate just six weeks before the elections, a new Sienna poll has Gillibrand with a wide lead, 57-31.

“Coming off his primary victory, DioGuardi has not gotten any momentum or gained any ground on his effort to unseat Gillibrand” said Steven Greenberg, who conducted the poll.

Gillibrand’s 57 percent support is a record for her, and she also gets 44 percent compared to 37 who prefer “someone else.”

I do not for one minute believe that nonsense about Prince Andrew having a '33 POINT LEAD' over Paladino. Lil' Cuomo is toast, he just doesn't know it yet. Paladino is like James 'Buster' Douglas, he's got nothing to lose, everything to gain, and he's got the big bat. I predict Paladino over Cuomo by 7 points.

My guess it is registered voters not likely voters.

Most likely. And like the saying goes, the only poll that counts is the one on Election Day.

We already know that the Tea Party movement has created a new paradigm.

No polls are trustworthy today because they do not capture the electorate’s new composition, anger, nor cross-voting.

TRUST NOTHING! KEEP UP THE FIGHT!

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand with a race on her hands – and one has her clinging to a one-point lead over Republican Joe DioGuardi

Bias: Gillibrand has a title, and DioGuardi does not. When a republican has a narrow edge, it is a statistical tie, but when the Dem is ahead, it's a one-point lead. Two twists on objectivity in a single sentence - the author deserves a raise (too bad his employer is for some unexplained reason losing money).

Schumer’s pet may have to leave congress, but I doubt their relationship will end.

Seems like all the polls are light for conservatives when the vote happens.

I didn’t see her commercials. I refuse to listen to her or Schummer. They both lie through their teeth. I just hope that we can get rid of them.
