WASHINGTON — The National Security Agency, headquarters for the government’s eavesdroppers and code breakers, has been located at Fort Meade, Md., for half a century. Its nickname, the Fort, has been familiar for decades to neighbors and government workers alike.

Yet that nickname is one of hundreds of supposed secrets Pentagon reviewers blacked out in the new, censored edition of an intelligence officer’s Afghan war memoir. The Defense Department is buying and destroying the entire uncensored first printing of “Operation Dark Heart,” by Anthony Shaffer, a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve and former Defense Intelligence Agency officer, in the name of protecting national security.

Another supposed secret removed from the second printing:

Censorship and issues of National Security are not the same thing. Naturally, NYT chooses to ignore the reality of difference.

The army approved the book, 100 copies were distributed. From what I have been able to glean from my internet search, this is more about keeping Clinton and the democrats from getting embarrased by their backwards policy towards Al-Qaeda and Mohamed Atta pre 911. National Security is what failed us on September 11th 2001.

Was this about National Security?

The Justice Department initially said Berger stole only copies of classified documents and not originals. But the House Government Reform Committee later revealed that an unsupervised Berger had been given access to classified files of original, uncopied, uninventoried documents on terrorism. Several Archives officials acknowledged that Berger could have stolen any number of items and they “would never know what, if any, original documents were missing.”

Convoluted headline, isn’t it? “Fort Hood censors book in Able Danger Coverup.”

Knowing the book burning will inspire readership and not cover anything up- I think this is an attempt by the military to expose their senior leaderships inability to provide effective policy.

Either that or they are really stupid.

National Security is what failed us on September 11th 2001.

Not really: it's the paralysis inflicted by the Leftists and leading us to defeats ever since Vietnam that emboldened the enemies and made them successful.

I totally agree.
Politicians who abuse National Security for their personal political ends should get the same penalties as terrorists.

Incidentally, all we need is ONE copy of those 200 which "escaped," a copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro, and their attempt at censorship is thwarted...

After reading the article I don't believe this book wasn't censored for it intelligence revelations but passive techniques used to gather that information. I have issues with Colonel Shaffer about communication intercept measures. It does more harm than good and can get people killed...Very sloppy, there is nothing patriotic tipping off the enemy what methods intel folks utilize.
