The suit accuses the clinic of submitting fraudulent claims to Medicare and Medicaid for thousands of pathology tests that were never performed.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the complaint states that over the course of the last 10 years, Mayo has routinely billed Medicare, Medicaid and other federally sponsored health care programs for surgical pathology services that have not been performed.
The paper reports plaintiffs in the suit include former Mayo patients, survivors of deceased Mayo patients, and Minnesota attorney David Ketroser.
Mayo Clinic spokesman, Bryan Anderson, released a statement saying: "Upon discovering a billing error in 2007, Mayo corrected it and voluntarily refunded $242,711 to the federal government. The error was identified and corrected long before Mayo became aware that a sealed complaint had been filed and well before Mayo was notified that the Department of Justice was evaluating whether to become involved in the complaint."
Anderson says Mayo has fully complied with the law and that the Department of Justice investigation has "nothing to do with any patient or quality of care issues."
Before we can all be broken to the bit of Socialized Medicine where one's medical care and very survival depends upon who one knows politically and our "Value to the State".
Top tier Physicians and Medical Organizations must be sullied and driven into the dirt.

$240k?
Thats about 1 year cancer treatment for 2 people.
Mayo Clinic shakedown!
Set up bizarre payouts, regs, and incentives by government fiat and then prosecute your political enemies for misdeeds related to them. Ask Rick Scott.

Who, may I ask, is auditing the “Justice” Department. Under this administration a larger bunch of crooks would be hard to find.

Health Reform: President Obama suggested last summer that the Mayo Clinic was the model for government medical care.
On Monday, the Mayo Clinic in Arizona stopped taking Medicare patients.

Best Foods and Hellman’s is the same mayo, just different labels............
Yep, seems before someone mentioned the Democrat Health Care bill was to destroy them as a business
Bump for later
Not only did they not endorse Obamacare, but in Arizona - at least at the Clinic in Phoenix area - they no longer accept Medicare patients. Darned upstart state of Arizona again!
Wasn’t it just this year that Mayo Clinic in Arizona announced that they would not be taking any new medicare patients?
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Yep. I’m west of the Rockies.
must be arresting illegasl why else woult the justice persue this..uhhhh maybe its a shakedown. I think we got a bunch of amulance chasers in the Justice Dept.
From post at #25,
This is in direct retaliation to the revered Mayo Clinic decision by it’s Arizona branches to stop taking Medicare patients. Prior to this notification, the Mayo Clinic was be touted by Obuma for a quality organization, keeping cost down, blah blah blah when he was pushing for the passage of that insane health care grab legislation. Then the shoe dropped when the Arizona branch gave their notice that they would no longer accept Medicare patients. It has not take even a single year to find rampant fraud at the Mayo Clinic.
Speaking of the money, Mayo Clinic just inherits fortunes from folks who like what they do, knowing who the Justice Department works for, it may be jealousy
This is exactly why you never want to do business with the federal government ever.
