Christine O'Donnell's Site Flagged by McAfee Site Adviser! (Vanity, but important)

I have been visiting Christine's web site for weeks now with no issues. However, when I visited today, I got a warning from my McAfee site advisor software. McAfee is flagging her donation page as potentially malicious!

Below is what I emailed to McAfee's PR people with cc to the O'Donnell campaign (Her campaign replied back and were very grateful I brought this to their attention.)

Something like this could cost her campaign 10's of thousands in potential donations!

TO: McAfee Consumer PR CC: Christine O'Donnell campaign

Subject: This Looks Suspect

I am a user of McAfee and am writing you because you are listed as “Consumer PR” so you seem as logical a place as any to start. I have been visiting GOP Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell’s web site http://www.Christine2010.com for several weeks now and have twice made donations through her site with no problems at all. However, today when I went to her site, McAfee gave me that ominous red site adviser warning. Going to the site adviser page it only says “McAfee TrustedSource web reputation analysis found potential security risks with this site. Use with extreme caution!”

Now, whether this is actually what is going on or not, I’ll tell you what it looks like – it looks like someone is trying to keep people off of this Senate Candidate’s site for political purposes – maybe to dampen her contributions, which to date have been considerable?

Your Site Advisor page gives absolutely NO reason for this rating – just warns people to use “extreme caution.” Considering this is a highly visible and potentially very contentious Senate race, I think it would behoove McAfee to investigate this and correct if, as I suspect, her site is being unfairly targeted at “malicious. Something is rotten is the state of Denmark, not to mention Delaware!

Since the site adviser page gives no details about why this Senate candidate’s web page is being flagged as potentially malicious, I am requesting additional information regarding the specifics of this rating. I am cc:ing Candidate O’Donnell’s people about this and attaching a screen capture image.

I have MacAffe on the computer I am using now, I got through. Just change the settings to ‘safe’.

McAfee is “1980’s state of the art”.I thought they had disappeared, but apparently not.

Nothing would surprise me when it comes to the left! By the way, I also emailed Rush about this. As a 24/7 member there is at least a shot he will get it.

My virus pack said nothing, so the conspiracy idea looks plausible. McAfee and Symantec are both problematic. The latter once informed me that my daughter’s computer had a virus but sent me to their support site (in India or Pakistan, I’d say) where they wanted a credit card number and $99 to resolve the situation. I wiped the disk and re-installed software and never used Symantec again.

Wonderful you followed up on this. I’m glad we dumped McAfee. We use Microsoft Security Essentials now, which is free and online, and seems to be working well.

Good to hear! I also tried my Macbook which used Norton and no problems. Seems to be a McAfee issue then. Lots of folks still use McAfee as it came pre-installed on Dells (not sure if it still does, but it did on mine).

I have Avast professional which did the job that MalwarebYtes didnt do..annihilate a super trojan within seconds. I’ve had McAfee, Norton 360, AVG. All paid and wasted money. Cyberdefender is the worst hands down. Try Previx and/or Avast Pro 4.8 or 5.

The fact that you can get through isn't the point. The point is, a lot of people will get that warning and leave the site, thus costing her potential donations! I can get thought also, but the warning could keep lots of folks away!

It came pre-installed on an Acer Windows 7 machine, as well.

I’ve seen this happen before with sites that were of interest to Freepers. I think it was Google involved in that.

One explanation is that it’s just left-wing maliciousness at work.

Another explanation is that Coons or leftist hackers working for him put a virus on that site, it was cleaned up, but the warning is still up. I don’t know about McAfee, but evidently Google had a policy of leaving the warning up for a week or so in case the infection recurred.

In any case, a leftist hacker attack is really just as bad as the other explanation, although it would make McAfee less guilty. But I’d still hold their feet to the fire.

They just "disappeared" as they got bought by Intel recently, for a cool SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS.

I agree that their products generally stink. I steer towards Trend, Microsoft Security Essentials or one of the better free ones (Kaspersky, AVG, Panda)
