McDonald's May Drop Health Plan (but Obama said you could keep your plan!)

McDonald's Corp. has warned federal regulators that it could drop its health insurance plan for nearly 30,000 hourly restaurant workers unless regulators waive a new requirement of the U.S. health overhaul.

The move is one of the clearest indications that new rules may disrupt workers' health plans as the law ripples through the real world.

Trade groups representing restaurants and retailers say low-wage employers might halt their coverage if the government doesn't loosen a requirement for "mini-med" plans, which offer limited benefits to some 1.4 million Americans.

This is what obozo wants.

Methinks it is also what McDonald's wants.

We do need to find a way to decouple health care from employment, it’s one reason why so many people in their late 40s, and 50s have a hard time finding work, companies don’t want to bear the health insurance costs that come with older workers.

Yes and attornys have made billions in mal practice suits. Without that medical costs may have only doubled instead of going nuclear.

Agreed. It should never have been allowed in the first place.

Why employers got a write-off while private parties and the self-employed did not is one of those "equal protection before the law" goodies I've never really understood. If corporations are "persons" they can live like the rest of us.

If Obama and the other Marxist Liberals get their way, they will eventually force McDonald’s out of business completely by over-taxing their “unhealthy” food.

What he wants is to see the Insurance companies go down...this administration will immediately pass regulations on them so they cannot raise their premiums yet require them to fullfill the conditions of this healthbill and their new regulations.... Important to remember the banking industry is tied into the Insurance Companies...... so the handwriting on the wall isn’t hard to figure out. The banks know what is up and are protecting their own interests...they see what’s coming from this Administration.

If so, then why did they wait all these years to do so?

I worked for McDonald's (on the corporate side) for almost all of the last decade, and based on everything I ever saw there, they are honest and decent, and really do care about their employees.

There is a limit to anything. What with all the demands that private insurers pay for illegals and indigents in their hospital bills, eventually the costs get out of hand. Once uncle sugar offers a way out without hurting their people, what do you think they're going to do?

Agreed.

I don't believe that they were just waiting for the chance to "screw" their employees. But they aren't going to ruin the company to accommodate Obama and the Dems fantasy about healthcare, either.

I just have to laugh. The average Mickey D’s worker is also your average obastard voter. Of course, most of them will just blame Mickey D’s for cutting the insurance ‘cuz they’re too dumb to get it.

Our coverage is increasing $166 per month (for my husband and me) effective January 1, which works out to about 13%.

I am indeed outraged. We knew this was going to happen - never any question in our minds. The only question was “How much?”

I said the same thing you did about storming congress, only I said we should do it BEFORE it was voted on.

Why would there be no lawsuits for malpractice just because the patient is uninsured? That doesn’t mean the doctor can practice without malpractice insurance. Apples and oranges.

That’s right.

Most of the DC pubs are just a bunch of wimpy, candy assed schemers like the rats......just not as bad (mostly).

Actually, Richard Nixon was first elected President in 1960. He let somebody else count the votes, however.

Barry's stupid, but he's not that stupid. He left himself some wiggle room.

“Let me be exactly clear about what health care reform means to you,” the president told residents of the Garden State. “First of all, if you’ve got health insurance, you like your doctors, you like your plan, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan. Nobody is talking about taking that away from you.”

But last month, as the president acknowledged during a press conference, he doesn’t literally mean that you are guaranteed to be able to keep your health care plan, and your doctor, if and when health care reform passes.

“When I say ‘If you have your plan and you like it,… or you have a doctor and you like your doctor, that you don't have to change plans,’” the president said after we asked him about this, “what I'm saying is the government is not going to make you change plans under health reform.”
