Someone else loves The Great Race. I always loved the cartoonish quality to that great movie and one of my faves. Tony Curtis is one of the great legendary actors. Quite a time in film he went through and left quite a legacy and will live on with it.

It’s hard to work around that accent. Yul Brynner wasn’t so happy with him in Taras Bulba, but that is a great one too.

Guy was a first class pig. Six wives...and boasted about maintaining a shared apartment (shared with other philanderers) in Manhattan where he (and they) would bring would-be starlets for a quick daytime, er, tryout.

He’s next door to the “Rat Pack” right now.

Good riddance to a first class pig. Bragged about having an apartment in NYC theater district he shared rent on with a bunch of fellow young actor/phialnderers where they had their quickies w/ wanna-be starlets. Never the least bit apologetic on this that I know of.

He now resides next door to the “Rat Pack”.

Great flick, sort of a M*A*S*H feel to it about a stateside military mental hospital in WWII — mixes drama and comedy pretty well. Peck is great as the Captain, and Curtis is Leibowitz, his second in command who’s always running some kind of scam. The book is excellent, too. Highly recommended.

‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘Sparticus’ (or was it The Vikings’) showcased Curtis’s versatility. He also did a great impression of Cary Grant and others in Hollywood.

I did about the same thing. My Mother would drop us off at the movies and we might end up seeing a picture at least 3 times before she came back to pick us up which was fine with us.
I loved The Great Race, my dad's name is Leslie so it made it even more special. Only film I know where the Hero was named Leslie, gave dad a DVD of that film.
I also loved that car, “The Leslie Special”, boy I wish I had that car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Vikings with Curtis, Douglas, Borgnine, Leigh and that guy with the funky speech impediment and all without major violence and “adult” language!

I watched that again, about a month ago. Even the "schlock" from back then, and schlock that movie really was, is infinitely superior to what Hollyweird offers us today, on a regular basis...

Tony was one of the great ones. As a kid, I loved his performance in "The Vikings." His paintings are magnificent:

Curtis was born Bernard Schwartz in Bronx, New York, the son of Emanuel Schwartz and his wife, Helen Klein. His parents were Hungarian Jewish immigrants from Mátészalka, Hungary. Hungarian was Curtis' only language until he was five or six, postponing his schooling.
