Falling off the Floor: Gloria Allred and the Democrats
Townhall.com ^ | September 30, 2010 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 09/30/2010 5:53:11 AM PDT by Kaslin

Meg Whitman easily bested Jerry Brown in a debate over the future of California on Tuesday night.

So California Democrats had to hope that one of their reliable warhorses would saddle up and do some damage to Whitman with some kind of smear that diverted attention from the knock-down that brown suffered. Lawyer Gloria Allred turned up, right on schedule, with a headline grabbing, allegation-hurling press conference about the misdeeds of Whitman.

Turns out that Whitman had hired a housekeeper a few years back, after being provided all the necessary documents. Whitman was very serious about complying with the law as any CEO of a major public company ought to be, if only to protect the thousands and thousands of shareholders who cannot afford to have corporate leadership turn out to be law breakers.

Whitman was defrauded. The housekeeper lied. Many years later the housekeeper admitted her lies to Whitman, and Whitman dismissed her.

First the law. Don't believe me. Believe Erwin Chemerinsky, the very liberal dean of the University of California at Irvine Law School. After Allred's press conference I had Erwin on my radio program to state the law, which he did very quickly: Whitman had to fire the housekeeper or break the law.

Then I had Gloria on the program. The audio and transcript are posted at HughHewitt.com.

I have known Gloria for a number of years, and like her. But she's a lefty and publicity-hungry, so when she can combine both her political agenda and her ambitions for the spotlight, don't get between her and the camera. This is why she played herself in the movie Rat Race. Her publicity-seeking is so over the top that even she is willing to make fun of it on the big screen.

She last attacked a Republican candidate for governor when he was leading the polls shortly before a vote when she launched a broadside against Arnold in August of 2003. Her client, Rhonda Miller, alleged sexual harassment. Miller's suit was dismissed.

I began my interview with Allred by asking her how that case turned out. Allred objected to the line of questioning.

I played Erwin's answer to my straightforward question and asked Allred if Erwin had stated the law correctly.. Allred objected to the line of questioning.

I asked Allred if she could state the law. She objected to this line of questioning.

Allred hung up on me when it became obvious that I simply wasn't going to allow her to repeat her allegations without establishing first a theory of the law under which Whitman could be understood to have done anything wrong.

All across the county, Democrats are hanging up on calls from voters, or not answering the phone in the first place.

They aren't holding votes in Congress, and they aren't holding townhalls in their districts.

They make outrageous charges and then refuse, like Allred on my show, to state their cases or make their arguments.

I have waited 20 years in broadcast for the perfect moment to tell a nonsense-spewing guest that they can't handle the truth. I got to do it with Gloria.

Soon the entire country will get to do it to Democrats from the top of the ticket to the bottom. The nonsense and stunts must stop. The country has real problems, problems that trial lawyers cannot solve, that public employee unions cannot divert attention from, and for which the president, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have no answers.

Like Gloria Allred today, the entire party will be embarrassed after the decision is rendered.

Sadly, like Gloria, there is very little evidence that they will change their ways.

Maybe I should file a State Bar complaint against the cartoonish Allred. She just exposed her client to prosecution for her illegal status. Ok, it’s theoretical, but it’s not exactly ethical for an attorney to publicly announce her client’s guilt.

What matters is NOT the accuracy of the charge. What is critical is the HEADLINES to be generated, then to be repeated over and over by the usual suspects.

I wonder what Gloria's client got paid for this stunt?

ICE should have the Maid on a bus headed to Mexico as we speak.

If Allred is so devoted to her “client” save a seat on the bus for her as well to defend her from Mexico.

Alred should face ethics or legal practice charges from the state. This stunt in other areas of the country would result in losing one’s license.

Problem is, they'll buy her a round trip ticket.

They make outrageous charges and then refuse, like Allred on my show, to state their cases or make their arguments.

A lot of people are using this very effective tactic -- demand that the Leftist state their premise. Take them back to their foundations and ask them to build their argument from first principles. They just can't. They don't know (or, more likely: don't want to admit) why they hold their political beliefs.

It's all about them feeling good about themselves. From a rational standpoint, they have absolutely nothing.

It would be fun to see an ad with voters calling their Dem. congresscritters and hearing nothing on the other end of the line., The voters could keep asking “Can you hear me?”
At the end they could show a ballot and the callers in unison could say: “Can you hear us now?”

Jerry Brown is a moron.

I guess most Californians cannot think back to how California was under the first Jerry Brown governorship.

It was an unmitigated disaster much like the Carter presidency.

Or maybe the voters of today were not even born yet when Jerry brown was governor of California.

Where else did he get the moniker Governor Moonbeam.

The default strategy for commie liberals is always the politics of personal destruction and character assassination.

BINGO!

That is THE way to completely dismantle any leftist argument.

1) Demand they define terms. (fairness, justice, equality)
2) Demand they give a basis for their beliefs and assertions.

You usually don’t get past these two.
Yes, it IS all about them feeling good about themselves (Sowell: Intellectuals and Society) and they usually haven’t thought about WHY they believe what they assert they believe.

Jerry Brown is a moron.

That's what makes him such a perfect representitive for the majority of Californians.

Personally, I came to deeply respect the Libtard when she undertook the following valiant causes of action: Absolutely no reason to think Allred is a liberal publicity hound cooking up a lawsuit against a Pubbie a few days before an election as a dirty trick.

“ICE should have the Maid on a bus headed to Mexico as we speak.”

While in this case it appears that Whitman did not break the law when she hired the maid, since the maid provided her with all of the necessary documentation and Whitman had no way of knowing that the maid was illegal, I would hope that ICE would have a policy in which they do not deport immediately illegal aliens who claim that they were hired by someone who knew they were illegal. While it is true that allowing whistleblowing illegal aliens to stay in the U.S. for a few more months so they can testify could create an incentive for them to make up stories, such risk is greatly reduced if it is clear from the get-go that they will be deported after the trial ends; besides, the best way to reduce the number of illegal aliens is to prosecute and convict employers who hire them knowing that they’re illegal (or without bothering to check out their status).

You've never met anyone in your life that was personally very likable, but otherwise, completely untrustworthy? I find that very hard to believe.

Just by representing her, Allred is violating USC 8 sec. 1324. She can be sued by any of us in Civil Court under the expanded RICO statutes of 1996.

Allred’s Shady History of Political Interference

So why should we trust Gloria Allred? We shouldn’t, especially considering her history of political interference.

As the Los Angeles Times notes, Allred represented a woman in 2003 who made last-minute accusations against Republican candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger, charging that he had sexually assaulted her. The charges were later proven false and dismissed.

Now, suddenly, here’s Gloria Allred with another woman making shady accusations against a Republican candidate right before the California gubernatorial election. How convenient.

Our attitude on the conservative side, and the “we’re doomed” outlook feeds stories like this almost as much as the MSM’s effort to push it.

When we see you do that with a RINO Hugh, then we might begin to think you're on our side.

Until then we can "thank" you for your support of Arnold over McClintock in the 2003 recall election.

The “maid” had a 1991 California Driver’s License.

Whitman hired her in late 2000.

Where did this illegal intruder work for all those years?

This “poor woman’ has been lying & putting employers into jeopardy for almost 19 years. Gloria can STFU.

I have absolutely no sympathy for her.

Allred should have her license to practice law revoked.

Then what do we do for entertainment? I mean, if you're in CA and watching the media coverage, Old Glo is not only the attorney but judge and jury as well. She is holding court, not just press conferences.

I just hope she keeps it going, because I can almost hear the voters out there watching and deciding for Meg.

Allred has made it crystal clear than Diaz Santillan is the criminal and Whitman is the victim.

Naturally, media doesn't question how Santillan happened to have fraudulent documents she presented to the employment agency, nor how she came into possession of a letter that was addressed to Whitman and her husband, nor why Santillan held on to that letter (proving her SS# is false) until NOW.
