They might not be dangerous, but they're armed.

Seeking an added layer of protection, more high-profile celebrities are seeking permits to carry guns in New York City, according to New York's Daily News.

Among the big names licensed to pack heat: Marc Anthony, Robert De Niro, Donald Trump, and his son, Donald Jr., Mets third baseman David Wright, and Martha Stewart's daughter, radio host Alexis Stewart.

Anthony, 42, has a special permit that allows him to carry a loaded weapon in the city, and has a similar permit for Nassau County, where he and Jennifer Lopez have a $2 million home in Brookville.

It’s not just a role, it’s a way of life.

Am I wrong to assume that the average New Yorker cannot do this?

Hopefully (the NRA maybe) will this be challenged now that it’s brought to light. Not because they can ‘carry’, but because I cannot.

Since when is Marc Anthony’s life worth more than the average szchlub? If this isn’t a 14th amendment issue
I don’t know what is.

Don Imus has been carrying a gun in New York City for years. In fact, I remember reading somewhere that he met his wife for the first time when he saw her getting mugged in the city and used his gun to chase the mutant away.

As long as some punk cop, or government thug can carry a firearm and I can not, the existance of equal protection under the US constitution is simply not there.

That’s OK...after all, they’re IMPORTANT! But “little people” had better not apply for CC permits in Bloomberg’s paradise!!

The article is written in a way that the reader is pushed from the question ; “Wait a sec... Why are there elites who can do more than anyone else ?”

How come they can get a permit in places where “normal” people like us cannot? Are their lives more important than ours? Makes you wonder.

>>”Are their lives more important than ours?”<<

No, that’s not it. They just have more money and clout than you or I.

Outside of NYC is different. Both Mrs. panax and I can carry concealed in every county in the state, except New York City.

Are you sure about Long Island?

I’m a resident of Suffolk County, and I can’t just go and get a carry permit. Well...I COULD get one, if I get a “target shooting” permit, which would allow me to carry on my way to and from a pistol range. And ONLY to and from the range. I can get a household one, or a business one, but as far as I know, I am unable to get a regular old CARRY permit, for personal protection.

Unless something has changed in the last few years, I’m not sure you WOULD be able to carry here on the Island. Then again, perhaps you are grandfathered in? Suffolk county USED to issue them, but things changed a while back.

Regards,

PS: If I’m wrong on this, I do hope someone will tell me. I’d love to be able to get a permit, if it’s possible.

Nothing new about this. Even DC will accommodate the rich and famous. Take a look at what jumped off the screen during the late Senator Kennedy’s funeral extravaganza in Washington. How many of us would have been allowed to walk around unquestioned by the cops with a bulge like this on our hip?
