President: “We Need More Teachers.” Reality: “Yoohoo! I’m Right Over Here! Hellooo!”
Cato Institute ^ | 9/29/2010 | Andrew J. Coulson

This week, President Obama called for the hiring of 10,000 new teachers to beef up math and science achievement. Meanwhile,...public school employment has grown 10 times faster than enrollment for 40 years (see chart), while achievement at the end of high school has stagnated in math and declined in science (see other chart).

It’s why I’m NEVER having kids and will remain celibate to ensure it doesn’t happen by accident. There is absolutely no hope.

It should encourage sane-thinking people (like you and others here) to have MORE kids, to help balance things out! :)

Federal taxpayer funding of hiring more school teachers (unconstitutional, by the way) will result in more union dues paid, and more election campaign support.
Do architects have a labor union contributing to DimRat campaign funds?

If you find there is absolutely no hope in your world or a child’s world then it is probably best you stay with your desire to remain childless.

I on the other hand have faith. Our daughter was a Gift and I refuse to give up on her chances of having a full and rewarding life, even if it means giving everything I have in this world up to insure it! Hell, I’d give my life for her.

Meanwhile, I’ll not give up hope that you too will find peace and fulfillment in your life soon.

Thank you for your post.

I might reconsider if the Democrat’s voting fraud attempt fails next month. There might still be a pocket of civilization in the southwest where I can raise a family in peace.

If the monsters are still in power by 2012 then FORGET IT! I’m not watching my child get lined up against a wall and shot or worse turned into a leftist rodent through brainwashing.

In California alone, the state has 9870 schools, so 10k more teachers in the United states would not equal very many new union tax payers per state, and then add the extra 7 states obama says we have... goodness

There has to be SOME conservatives who want to be teachers, right? So HOW did they get so infested with liberals?

Where to start? Just take a look at who runs public schools. Women, minorities and union people. Everyone can make of that what they will.

We don’t need more teachers. We need BETTER teachers who aren’t
stupid mind-numbed liberals.

Ain’t gonna’ happen.
When I lived in Los Angeles, I often caught Bill Bennett’s radio show
(IIRC, he was something like Sec. of Education under Reagan).
He would occassionally have a show on the public school’s concerted effort
to keep REALLY qualified folks OUT of teaching science/math/physics.

My favorite case was a physics professor at Georgia Tech that had been “teacher
of the year” (twice?).
Once he became an emeritus professor, he offered to teach high school
physics FOR FREE.
He was turned down cold.

Yeah, the teachers’ union is “for the children”.
Public Schools are the most “closed shop” of any occupation on Planet Earth.

Well, of course, Dude! Like man, once you’ve been taught to teach you don’t need to be taught stuff to teach but if you’ve only been taught stuff to teach but not taught to teach then you just can’t teach stuff even though you have been taught stuff. SEE?

Those who can do, those who can’t teach.

LOL that’s as bad as slick willie’s 100,000 new LEO’s......do people actually know how many school districts are in even 1 state much less all 50? 0’s math skills do not compute any more than slick willie’s did.

Memphis spends twice as much to build the same sq foot school building as does Shelby CO. They must have pretty schools for the deprived. And we in the county have to pick up the tab of $2.00 for every $3.00 the city spends. (Different schools systems for the county and the city. City schools are dysfunctional) General student ratio is 20 per teacher now. For what we spend as a nation on ‘education’ we could hire private tutors for each child and save money.

I’m a conservative history teacher. Of course, I’m an endangered species, but I survived my university.
