GOP nominee for governor to NY Post editor: "Iíll take you out" (Can Paladino control his temper?)
Hotair ^ | 10/01/2010 | Allahpundit

Posted on 10/01/2010 7:36:07 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

We’re late to this one, but oh well. The editor in question is Fred Dicker, who’s covered Albany for the Post since forever and whom Paladino accuses of being in the tank for Andrew Cuomo (maybe with some justification). Last weekend, the Post ran a story about the child Paladino had with a former mistress 10 years ago and reportedly sent a photographer to the house where Paladino’s daughter lives to get a shot of her. Here’s their campaign statement about it; that invasion of privacy is what spurred Paladino to tell Dicker he’d take him out. Paladino also wants to know why his affair is the subject of a Post blockbuster cover story while Cuomo’s affairs are left uncovered. The Post’s reply: There’s no evidence of any Andrew Cuomo affairs. Paladino’s reply to that: There will be soon.

So there’s the context you need for the clusterfark you’re about to see. My worry here is that, as much as people will sympathize with Paladino for wanting to protect his daughter, New Yorkers have had two massive trainwrecks in a row as governor. In any other state this year, a tea partier who’s willing to be a loose cannon to shake up government is a good thing. In New York, given the past three years, maybe not so much. People are weary of drama, I think, and Paladino going around threatening to take a baseball bat to Albany and to “take out” reporters (he clarified today to say he meant it in the sense of taking out the trash) is, perhaps, not the best way to assure them that he’ll be different. Especially since his opponent, by dint of his parentage, recalls an era when the drama in the capital wasn’t so lurid.

The latest poll of likely voters from Marist, out just this afternoon: Cuomo 53, Paladino 38. Survey USA and Quinnipiac had the race within single digits just last week, which might have been noise or might have been a bounce Paladino got from winning the primary. I’m curious to see how the next round of numbers looks, especially now that this clip’s getting attention on the local news.

If Paladino had KICKED HIS ASS I would have been even more happy.

I am WAY PAST being tired of the liberal media butt-boys for democraps being allowed to do or say anything to our candidates, but giving democraps a pass.

WHERE IS CUOMO ANYWAY? Is he the INVISIBLE CANDIDATE?

DOES HE APPROVE OF THE PRESS STALKING CARL’S DAUGHTER? (did he send them?)

It's my understanding that Palladino himself revealed that he had a daughter as a result of an affair.

Why did the NY Post find it necessary to dig further?

The post is contemptible for putting a photographer on the young child of Paladina. He should have reacted.

In fact, he should have decked the guy.

The kids are off limits, sleazebags.

After having a reporter sent to perv in the window of his 10 year old daughter, I’d say Palladino treated him with considerable restraint. When given the facts, normal people see this action as a positive. It is only the political class that would see it as a problem

This is NOT old news. It was just two days ago and is still being discussed in the papers and talk shows ( just heard it on Curtis Sliwa’s show this morning).

How old does something have to be in order for it to be considered “old”?

I find Paladino’s temper and willingness to fight our enemies evidence of the desperately-needed American spirit that seems to be nonexistant among the Ruling Class eunuchs in DC.

We are at war for our survival; patriots better quickly find their spine, guts, and cajones in order for us to win our country back.

Now I know this guy is the "right" candidate... smears and allegations from the commies always make it easy to figure out who will make "conservative" changes. However, he seems like a "thug" to me, but I think I would react similar if some pervert was stalking my daughter!

Yep.

There are times when you have to fight fire with fire.

Stalking a TEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER is beyond the pale.

I am only sorry he did not verbally degrade that monster and all of the pack that would attempt to invade the privacy and security of a child.

I am sure he DID CONTROL HIS TEMPER. My husband would not have controlled his, and I don't honestly know if I would object had he not.

Maybe they should go back and review some of Harry Truman’s outbursts. Having a fiery temper is not always seen as a negative, IF they things you get mad about seem important to the public (in this case, protecting his children’s privacy rings with a lot of citizens).

He shouldn't have had to have lost his temper -- his supporters and frankly, any good-intentioned new yorker within range should have already given this reporter the business.

Taking public pictures to ridicule a 10-year-old girl, simply so you can tear down a political candidate? That's lower than low.

Not some linguinie-spined liberal pantywaist afraid to make a noise like a man lest he upset some rabid butchdyke apparachnik political-correctness Kommissar in “The Party”.

And basically, there’s this: any man who doesn’t protect his family isn’t worth voting for (think Dukakis and the “what if your wife was raped” question re the death penalty) - and doesn’t deserve to be called a Man.

For once, it’s refreshing to see a politician stand up for basic decency.

The only thing I wish we could see is one of these people without mistresses, without IRS problems, without {insert smear du jour here) etc., etc. Just once...someone with no ammo for the leftard scumbags to use (other than invented).

Thanks for the ping, ExTex...

The problem is that Paladino got teed off at Dicker, who most likely wasn't the party at the New York Post who sent that photographer after his daughter. Paladino was justified to be angry at the Post but not justified to threaten Dicker personally. Often times, these tabloid media will have the dirty work done by people unknown to the general public.

I've had some contact with Dicker and would think that he's more principled than to get involved with having a photographer chase after a politician's innocent child.

BTW, Dicker is not an editor at the Post, rather their Albany bureau chief, to the best of my knowledge.

Talk is cheap Paladino. :')

I don't think what he said is an overreaction, at all -- it would be hard to blame him had he not said this and just gone to the partisan shill's office and thrown him through the nearest window to his death. Had he worded it with a little more circumspection, he might have not given up any political hay. But as it stands, the NY Post has obviously helped him with both the tabloid-style smear campaign as well as the ridiculous denials about Cuomo. Everyone will have it fresh in their minds that the Post is in the bag for Cuomo, and has made Paladino hatchet jobs its main method of promoting Cuomo's candidacy.

We had it confirmed by 2 people within the Post that it was Dicker who sent them.... They were taking pictures of her through the window while she was practicing ballet, they took mail out of the mail box to take pictures of it, they harassed her as she tried to cross the street. All this while Carl was in New York City..

Carl called someone else to get over to Sarahs house instead of me. If it had been me that confronted them there would have been hell to pay. Dicker is responsible for this, he had it done, end of subject.

Mt job is to protect Carl when he is here and where ever I drive him. I only wish I was there with Carl, Dicker would not have gotten in Carls face. He is an ass.

If the facts are as you stated, I'd call the matter to the attention of the police in the jurisdiction and ask them to arrest the Post perps (including Dicker whom you allege instigated the incident) on trespassing charges and possibly others. It's also possible that the taking and photographing of the mail is a federal crime.

PALADINO PROTECTS 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER
Updated: September 30, 2010, 9:07 PM

ALBANY — Carl Paladino may file trespassing charges against a team of New York Post photographers who took “close-range” photographs of the Buffalo businessman’s 10-year-old daughter inside her home.

Michael Caputo, Paladino’s campaign manager, talked about the possible charges this morning, not long after Paladino had an angry public shouting match — in full view of a horde of cameras and reporters — with the Albany-based state editor of the Post.

I’ll go one step further. I wouldn’t care if Paladino calls every reporter in the country a satanist — I’d still hope New York votes for him.

I liked Impy’s take regarding O’Donnell recently:

Impy: “Frankly she could like to sacrifice innocent kitty cats to Satan and I’d still gleefully support her against the likes of Castle and Coons.”

So Dicker’s head in his face, (very personal), came off as just an up and up question to you? Did you see the clip no one plays prior to this where Fred asks after his wealth and his lawyer status? (first straight off the day before Coumo camp talking points, second sounded like an implied threat).

I’ve known Dicker and his work ethic as well, and was disgusted at how it went down. I’ll ask him when I get a chance.

He knows Cuomo’s history back to when he was the prince of darkness and muscle for his dad’s campaigns before he even went to DC, which I haven’t seen a column on. I have to dig.

Link me to Dicker’s hand in Cuomo’s face re: HUD, Farkas, Fitts/Hamilton, Gaffney, donors and fellow dems he threw under the bus for cover, his habits re: press leaks (even the ex-wife), etc..

It's obvious that allahpundit is up to his old tricks. He's doing the same thing to Paladino as he's done to Palin. This smart@ss poor excuse for a journalist should get his nose out of NY’s business.

THIS *IS* OLD NEWS! As Paladino was interviewed by Sean Hannity, Sean asked him point blank if he had anything about cheating on Cuomo, or was he questioning (in that Politico interview) why Cuomo’s personal life is off limits. Paladino answered quite directly that he had no info on any possible cheating by Cuomo, and that he was, in fact, saying the latter.

IT WAS THE PRESS who twisted Paladino’s words into an accusation that Cuomo was unfaithful.

From the outset, I read Palidino’s words from the Politico interview over and over again, and it seemed to me that Palidino was not accusing Cuomo of infidelity.

This whole episode, including the stalking of the daughter, WAS CAUSED AND INFLAMED BY THE PRESS, most likely at Prince Andrew's bidding. And all allahpundit is doing is piling on.

allahpundit is NO CONSERVATIVE SOURCE. How many times do FReepers have to say this?

Judging from Murdock's past history as owner of the Post, and Dicker’s fairly good reputation through the years, seems as if Dicker may be taking orders from his bosses on handling the gubernatorial race. Having the title of “editor” does not guarantee journalistic independence.
