There's another report of a senior citizen using a gun to fight back agains thugs. This time, one of the alleged thugs was killed.
Authorities say Frank T. Obrochta, 45, of Melrose Park and Franko Martinelli, 32, of the 2200 block of West Erie, Chicago, broke into a Ukrainian Village home on the 2100 block of West Huron at about 11 p.m. Monday.
The 79-year-old man who lived in the house confronted the pair. He was maced and punched. The victim was able to grab a gun he kept in the home and he shot and killed Martinelli.
Obrachta was caught soon after and he is now charged with home invasion and murder during the commission of a felony.
Under state law, if someone dies during commission of a felony, the person committing that felony is charged in the death, whether or not he intended for anyone to get hurt.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said bond for Obrachta is set at $750,000. Obrachta has an extensive criminal record in both Cook and Lake County.
As for the elderly man, he will not be charged since he was defending himself in his home.
Earlier this week, a 68-year-old woman shot a 12-year-old boy who was throwing bricks at her on the 7600 block of South Coles.

What’s worse, Chicago or Afghanistan?
Well, I’d suspect there will be a spike in these Self Defense shootings, then crooks will find other occupations.
Like running for Alderman in a Chicago Ward..:D
Sounds like SOMEONE'S been spending a bit of time at the range...
That's a tough one. They BOTH have thoroughly coorrupt governments. They're both infested with roving gangs of thugs. The chances of being killed by gunfire in one of them versus the other are roughly the same...
It's just so HARD to decide...
Can I think about it some more and get back with you?
One, maybe two, criminals with extensive records are now off the streets. The cost to society for these two has probably been in the range of up to $1,000,000. Had this been done earlier, with just the investment of $500.00 for a good pistol all that could have been saved. I think we should make owning a weapon mandatory.
Chicagostan. That’s what I’m calling Barry’s stomping ground from now on.
I’ll bet Obrochta is feeling like a dumb Pollock today.
I wonder what kind of an impact this has on crime? An FBI study showed that most criminals commit at least 20 felonies for every one they are caught for. The goblins that were shot won’t be committing any more felonies and their deaths may cause others to think twice about their career choice.
Victory through superior fire power. We have a son/wife and 2 grandchildren living in Chicago. We fear for them but both son and wife are Gulf war vets and know how to shoot.
Cities used to be fairly safe till libs took over.
