GOP challenger to Barney Frank raises $400K
Updated: Friday, 01 Oct 2010, 8:38 PM EDT

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Sean Bielat, the Republican challenger to Democratic Rep. Barney Frank, says he raised $400,000 last month to help him compete with the 15-term congressman.

Bielat's campaign released his fundraising totals for the most recent reporting period Friday, but would not reveal how much of the money came from supporters outside of Massachusetts.

The campaign also said it had $400,000 in cash on hand.

A spokesman for Frank's campaign said they did not have the fundraising figures for the Newton Democrat since the last reporting period at the end of August. As of that time, Frank had over $1 million in cash on hand.

He displays the same arrogance and sense of entitlement that turned off voters on Coakley. We’ll see what happens there, but Barney is polling below 50% and Bielat clearly has momentum.

Barney came out of the closet long ago in his sexuality. No one in his district seemed to care, although I wonder about dead and invisible people voting him into office.

Barney coming out of the closet as an unapologetic soft communist will hopefully be his undoing. The people in his district must out vote all the dead and invisible people voting for him. High turn out would shed the light on all those dead/unseen.

You’re right, I was mistaken. He won by ~1700 votes.

Barney Frank's 2010 campaign posters say nothing of his political affiliation. It's a pretty unicorn though.

Whoops, nevermind.

I think it was 30% of the ballots in the dem primary that that had no vote for Bwanney.

Maybe this is how such upsets happen - out of the blue at the last minute.

All that need happen is the impression of vulnerability at the right time. I have a feeling people would rush to the polls if they thought there was a real chance of turning this old turd out.

I'm skeptical. Newton, MA, is probably the second most liberal district in the country, behind San Francisco.

Believe it or not, it's not even the third most liberal district in Taxachusetts. It's liberal alright, #76 most D district in the country, but MA-8 (Capuano) and MA-7 (Markey) are worse.

Sean Bielat is a VERY good candidate. We might be adding this to out Tier 2 list very soon.

I am hearing, lots of people (both liberal and conservative)
are fed up with Washington, D.C. characters.

You may be on to something! I see long time incumbants like John Dingle, MI-15, Kanjorski in PA, Ike Skelton in MO, Spratt in SC, Boswell in IA. It looks like people are really going to vote for change this time.
