U.S. to Issue Terror Warning for Americans in Europe
Fox News ^ | 10/2/10

Posted on 10/02/2010 1:41:37 PM PDT by workerbee

The Obama administration will issue a warning Saturday to U.S. travelers in Europe to avoid places frequented by Westerners after new intelligence suggested an attack by Al Qaeda could be imminent, a senior U.S. intelligence official told Fox News.

The travel warning is expected to be announced at 4 p.m., pending Secretary Hillary Clinton's approval, the official said.

The move is expected to have significant implications for European tourism.

The travel warning will advise Americans to stay away from European tourist sites, transportation hubs and other facilities because of fresh threat information, U.S. officials said.

A European official briefed on the talks said the language in the U.S. alert is expected to be vague. It won't address a specific country or specific landmarks, the official said.

European and U.S. officials have not identified any specific targets that terrorists might be considering, the official said. Officials have called the threat credible but not specific.

Prayers up please. My nephew lives in Madrid.

When I was stationed in Germany in the 70's, the Germans were usually friendly and embracing of soldiers.

But the commies came out every Mayday, like clockwork, now folks have to deal with the peaceful mooselimbs.

You’ve lurked her awhile and NO about page?

35 years ago we had thousands of Iranians living here going to college, learning about us. And they’ve continued being here.
Also going to our military colleges and schools.
They already are in place and know everything they need know about us.

Um, okay - Europe IS the West, so I guess it will be kind of difficult to be IN Europe but, at the same time, AVOID places frequented by Westerners ...

Maybe I'll just visit a Mosque!

Wow some very close friends of ours just returned from one of those cruises that also involves overland tours across Italy. The ship sailed down the coast and the passengers boarded a bus for the tour at each port of call. Perfect target for a terror attack. Pre-planned routes of travel, predictable time windows, it's perfect. I'm glad they're back.

I'll pray for your nephew. Make sure to tell him to avoid touristy type of areas. He himself should vary any routine he might have. Don't take the same route twice. Leave and arrive at destinations in a wildly varying time frame. Make frequent deviations in his route and keep an eye on the rearview to see if anybody makes the same turns. Any car that shows up more than once and he might have a problem.

Well, be vigilant and be safe. I’d say avoid all the touristy places but the ragheads are targeting “the west” which means even the Germans aren’t safe

Enjoy the smaller towns and sites outside the city center would be my motto. You’ll love Hamburg. I was there a couple of times when I was stationed in Germany in the 90s (Heidelberg)

Funny how I never seem to be there. Then again, I'm the only American on a European committee.

Although Lucerne really surprised me last week with SO MANY American voices everywhere. It felt really strange.

Remember the Berlin disco bombing?

I was in Europe at the time. People living overseas often have favorite places to gather.

I would guess that this is an admonition to not go to the same place every time.

Question: Is there an Islamic holiday or anniversary in the next month, some day that is special to them? They tend to “commemorate” certain days with memorable events.

If I remember right, 9-11 was the same date on the Muslim calendar as some battle that was fought centuries ago. Can’t remember the details.

I was visiting Spain a few years back. I was at a bus station, and 3 middle eastern looking men were casing the place. I got so alarmed, my husband ( who is usually a sceptic) and I were trying to find security to question these people. It was late at night, and we could not find a security gaurd. I returned home and told my friends Spain was next for a terror attack. Spain got the train attack a few months after my visit.
A week ago, I was driving by Tacoma Mall. Some dark skinned guy was taking pictures of the mall entrance. He was wearing a uniform- could not tell what type. It got my bad vibe feeling back again. I parked, and went looking for this person. he was gone.
What reason would there be to take a picture of the mall entrance?

Admittedly, strategically for a high impact attack summer would be a perfect time, but they likely just want to do something on a lower level. Plus they know that with the TEA party candidates getting elected and Obama facing a conservative White House, that they are getting in what they can.

And, if the Euros have any sense, they’ll be readying the box cars and stoking the ovens. This time however, the target will be an entirely logical choice. After another attack, nothing would stop the Euros from simply putting another Holocaust together.

The reason would be to successfully get an idea of how to hide if in the event they want to manage to make a surprise attack on mall goers. I think malls are next really. Perfect place to take hostages and do something high impact. Like Beslan, only using a mall. I’m sorry to hear about how you successfully theorized the Spain train attack. I think attacks are going to be more grassroots and high impact as a result. A mall going up in flames or bombed would result in something that would shellshock the nation since malls are a fixture in the American lifestyle in a way that even the Trade Towers weren’t.

More families would be directly impacted since their kids go to these places, plus the workers there. And to say the least about the number of people there. One lone gunman could storm the place, spray bullets, and take out dozens. A dozen gunmen would have a higher impact. If they came in through the different entrances, at the same time then it would prevent any escapes. And the devastation would be far more horrific psychologically.

The press would be all over it, the nation would be shocked, and God only knows how many police/SWAT/national guard it would take until they are all shot down.
