Exclusive: Karl Rove Discusses CO House Prospects
National Review ^ | October 1, 2010 | Michael Sandoval

Posted on 10/02/2010 2:24:25 PM PDT by george76

Karl Rove, whose American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS have raised millions of dollars on behalf of GOP candidates all over the country, has spent at least $1.3 million targeting Sen. Michael Bennet...

Rove turned to Colorado’s Congressional battles, featuring Republicans Cory Gardner in CO-4, Scott Tipton in CO-3, and Ryan Frazier in CO-7. Rove held a fundraiser in Aspen, Colorado, for the three candidates last week. “I’m feeling good about Cory. In fact, you’re starting to see the Democrats start to dial back some of their buys in the Markey district,” said Rove to Battle ‘10.

“Tipton has a really good shot at beating him [Rep. John Salazar],” added Rove. “But,” as he sounded a bit of caution, “this race is going to be fought right until the end, because they won’t pull back from Salazar.”

Rove also highlighted the race between Frazier and Rep. Ed Perlmutter. “The interesting one is going to be Frazier,” said Rove. “He represents the quintessential Colorado swing district. These others [Gardner, Tipton] are Republican districts that fell into Democrat hands. This is a district that is fully capable of being won by either party,”

The American Future Fund is pouring $560,000 into Colorado’s 7th district, targeting Perlmutter.

The challenge Frazier in a swing district is earning the support of ticket-splitting voters.

Agreed; he has shown that he cannot be counted on to be fair. He let his desire to back a winner cloud his judgement when his ‘winner’ actually lost

“Tipton has a really good shot at beating him [Rep. John Salazar],”

Maybe Karl ought to help Salazar out by calling Tipton a crazy liar.

Would this be the Karl Rove who told Tancredo to never darken the White House steps and called Tancredo a ‘traitor to the Republican party’ because of Tancredo’s position against amesty for illegal aliens?.

Karl Rove is toxic sewage waste. I would be very leery of any “Republican” that is supported by Rove. Rove is a PROVEN RINO and he is trying to elect more RINOs.

I agree with Karl Rove’s assessment on the Colorado Congressional races. Cory Gardner is probably in. Betsy Markey campaigned as an independent-minded moderate and voted for the Obama agenda. Voters don’t like being lied to. The Scott Tipton/John Salazar race could go either way and could decide control of the House.

Ryan Frazier is more problematic. He is a solid candidate, but Earl Perlmutter is one of the tougher ‘Rat incumbents. He’s run ahead of party lines in every election.

Karl Rove has always been such a smart-ass, ego jerk. And a zillion folks loved him here on FR.

I disliked him from the beginning. He was/is a phony. And on top of that, since Bush never had a brain, this creature was doing Bush’s think for him.

P.S.

It appears to me Karl was and has been taking orders from the elite kingmakers and was telling George what to do. This is why he went nuts last week or so when he realized he had no control over the Tea Party Movement to elect the Tea Party Movement’s choice rather than the elite’s choice.

What a fat ugly ass he is.

Golly gee, Karl, if the RNC hadn't refused to support Marilyn Musgrave, the most conservative rated member of the House who held CO-4 in '06, we wouldn't have to fight so hard to take it back from Markey the Marxist now would we?

This was mentioned in an article on Gore “helping” a candidate in FL. Only problem, the audience shouted “fraud” and other disparaging remarks. Funny as heck.

The only reason I can think of for Gore to be campaigning for anyone is to gin up the base that has left 0 and crew. I don’t believe it will help. They’re toast.

Rove is an idiot.

With the right support, Frazier could easily beat Perlmutter. Ed has made some serious gaffes lately. They just need to be publicized.

That district used to be very urban, hence Perlmutter but in the last 5 years, the suburban growth has been one of the fastest along Denver’s front range. Those suburban voters will find Frazier appealing.

Rove doesn’t favor Frazier because he is a black tea-party candidate, well spoken and has a beautiful family. As far as Rove is concerned candidates like Frazier should not exist. Rove hates the tea party and wants it to appear fringe, Frazier breaks that mold.

“Golly gee, Karl, if the RNC hadn’t refused to support Marilyn Musgrave, the most conservative rated member of the House who held CO-4 in ‘06, we wouldn’t have to fight so hard to take it back from Markey the Marxist now would we? “

Be that as it may, Cory Gardner is far superior to Musgrave in his intellect and capabilities. Cory’s an actual leader, and not just another vote in Congress.

I’ve met Cory a couple of times and have had a chance to converse with him at length in a very small group and ask him some very pointed questions, and I must say, Cory is a very impressive young man and an unquestionable conservative whose conservatism stems from fundamental personal values. Cory is a fifth generation Coloradan from Yuma, Colorado and whose family still owns a farm implement business in the area after all of those generations.

Cory is married and he and his wife Jamie have two children. Cory has degrees from Colorado State University and the University of Colorado Law School, and is the current Minority Whip in the Colorado State House of Representatives.

Finally, Cory was one of the first Congressional candidates to be designated as a “Young Gun” by Congressman Paul Ryan’s Young Guns group, which means he’s been selected for special mentoring and fast tracking into leadership positions. I personally believe Cory will soon take an active role in both national politics and getting the Colorado GOP back on track. That is, Cory is going to be much more than simply the Congressman from CO-4. Cory is someone whom you positively want to vote for because of who he is, and not simple because you want to vote against Betsy Markey. We are very lucky in CO-4 to have a conservative Republican with the values, credentials, and capabilities of Cory Gardner.

That's all very good. I'm glad we have a conservative in the race and I will support him.

Have you ever met Musgrave? Do you think she achieved the rating of most conservative House member by voting lock-step with the party? What is it about people who have to post insults about conservatives when there is no benefit whatsoever to it?

I agree. But I didn’t insult Musgrave. I just said I believe Cory is smarter and has better leadership potential. And then I went on to list what I believe to be Cory’s virtues. That’s not an insult. And yes, I’ve met Musgrave too.
