Although the word classic is easily banded about nowadays, SGT.Bilko ( I’m pretty sure it was named that in The UK) was pure genius!

The name of the show was “You’ll Never Get Rich”

My favorite on the show was Doberman.

Funny show, refreshing non sexual humor. Compare that to the total crap which passes for entertainment these days.

I watched a fair amount of late night reruns of it back in the 80s.

RIP

F Troop, Hogan’s Heroes, McHale’s Navy, Top Cat and probably other shows were basically re-worked episodes of “You’ll Never Get Rich”.

I picked up the 1st-season dvd-set of “Bilko,” which just came out a couple of months ago, and I’m about half-way through with it. Very, very funny show.

If you’re interested the entire series is available on DVD in chronological order for about $100. Send me a freepmail if you want the link to this set and hundreds of others at really good prices.

Everybody liked Doberman which apparently dismayed Silvers and other cast members who didn’t think much of him. Maurice Gosfield thought he was very talented but bombed in his post Bilko years. Much to Silver’s satisfaction.

I wonder if he was actually “liked” or generated sympathy based on his hang dog hapless demeanor.

You cannot actually like or dislike anyone without knowing them personally. You can like what a person stands for or how they act but to like them as an individual it would be necessary to interact with them on a one on one basis.
