That so many people vote for this guy is incredibly disturbing. It is a good reminder that you just can't count on people voting sensibly, even in the face of clear evidence that their politicians of choice are horrible by every measure.
Apparently 5.45 million people in Venezuela who voted for Chavez haven't put 2 and 2 together yet.

He’s taken over or destroyed most news media organizations that tried to speak any truth or opposition about his policies.... the average voter there probably hears 24/7 about how wonderful Chavez is and all their problems are due to the tyranny of evil America and capitalism.

No surprise. It's the growing parasite class that gets something for nothing as long as this thug is in power and there are still at least a few crumbs left to loot. The looting and rise of the parasite class is accelerating here as well.

Actually, probably not. Chavez and his crew have the ultimate ACORN/voter fraud operation going on. Still he probably did get most of those votes. The indigenous and dirt poor still like Chavez in the same way our African American population will vote for a Democrat no matter what. Think DC, Detroit, etc, where the mayors are literally embarrassing yet the people will elect these incompetents overwhelmingly over and over and over. It's just identity politics and Chavez, utter failure that he is, still speaks to the majority poor. Chavez's party actually lost the majority of the vote, yet retain just under 2/3rd of the legislative seats due to the way he and his socialist party rigged the system.
Yup, it is disheartening. I honestly don't think a lot of conservatives and traditional Americans understand how much public opinion has shifted in favor of the social welfare state amongst our rapidly increasing minority populations. California is a frightening omen of what may come to many of our states. That Jerry Brown, a washed up has been with the same old ideas that got California into all this mess in the first place, is running even or ahead of Whitman just goes to show how far gone much of the American public really is.

Yup, declining oil revenue as the increasingly state run oil industry slowly collapses. The more Chavez has seized, the worse production has been. This is also happening with pretty much every company/industry that the Venezuelan socialists nationalized. I guess it makes a majority of the people feel good for awhile though, and achieves Chavez's goal of buying off votes.
