The worst train in NY
NY Post ^

Posted on 10/04/2010 8:54:28 AM PDT by frogjerk

Next time you want to complain about your commute, think about the riders on LIRR train No. 1062.

The 5:41 p.m. run from Penn Station to Seaford, LI, has the worst track record of any train on the nation's largest commuter railroad.

Since July 1, the line has been canceled outright or halted in its run seven times -- more than any other of the 1,431 daily trains operated by the MTA's Metro-North or LIRR, according to a Post analysis of transportation data.

Frustrated rider Tom Seigel, who was on the 5:41 p.m. train Friday, said, "It's hard to be kept away from your family, even if it's just a few minutes. This train doesn't help."

The most delayed train in the entire system is the LIRR's No. 131, which is supposed to -- but often doesn't -- leave Babylon Station for Penn Station at 4:39 p.m. every day.

Instead, the line has been late 27 times since July 1, with delays ranging from a bearable six minutes to a maddening 84 minutes, on Sept. 16.

Of the more than 53,400 trains that the LIRR ran since July 1, 10 percent of them were delayed or canceled.

NJ Transit is horrible as well.

It’s much higher than 10%.

10% was as low as they could go manipulating their figures.

Where’s Mussolini when we need him?

I had always thought the NJ side was much more reliable than the LI side.

There are a few posters here on FR who think train travel is the best thing since sliced bread.

I say, fine, if YOU want to do it. If I can avoid it, I will because of things like this, and the big guy wearing the “I AM A MOTHER******” shirt (or I shold say, the guy he beat the crap out of, and the people who were rooting for him)

Wasn’t Obama supposed to make the trains run on time?

This is the model the libs want us to follow backing all these high speed, unnecessary, expensive as hell high speed rail systems. You will be going nowhere, but fast.

If they actually are ‘fast’ they will be dangerous in urban areas and people will be killed, if they have a lot of stops they cease to be ‘high speed’, ridership is grossly exaggerated, and you still have a huge issue of what do you do once you’re off the train to get to your destination (these don’t have endpoints inside cities) - so you’re screwed at being anywhere close to where you need to go.

unfortunately the sliced bread factory is now a union shop and the cost per slice has gone up 300% and you need to wait in line for the your lousy moldy bread.

if you think commuter rail to Manhattan stinks, try driving. Trains are late 10% of the time? How often do you think there are traffic jams in NYC? 99%? There's a reason people take commuter rail. Note: I'm not saying its perfect, but for the most part it works and you don't have to worry about finding parking.

NJ Transit is horrible as well.

Have you tried the Lincoln Tunnel during the morning rush lately? I'd rather be broken on the rack than drive into Manhattan on a weekday commute.

Bunch of cringing winers. So 8% of the time they had to take the next train, 17 minutes later. What a loss.

Typical far-leftist NYDN story.

The 53 minute, sit back and read your newspaper train ride saves commuters a horrible 2:00 hour drive in atrocious traffic, at about 30% the cost of driving.

Man-up. Get over it.

Heck, where's Willie when you need him? He should be in here talking about how we need to spend trillions of dollars so these trains can still run late, but do so with state of the art stations and tracks and cars!

Have you sat in a NJ Tranist "hot car" on Friday afternoon waiting on supposed "switching" problems lately?

So how often were people caught in traffic jams that delayed them that much.

The story took the worst possible example, just so they could give people some to cry about.
