For the second night in a row, The Wall Street Journal has the story on US officials' mounting frustration with Pakistan. According to the WSJ, US defense and intelligence officials and even Taliban commanders are now saying that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence directorate is urging the Taliban to step up the violence in Afghanistan:
Members of Pakistan's spy agency are pressing Taliban field commanders to fight the U.S. and its allies in Afghanistan, some U.S. officials and Afghan militants say, a development that undercuts a key element of the Pentagon's strategy for ending the war.
The explosive accusation is the strongest yet in a series of U.S. criticisms of Pakistan, and shows a deteriorating relationship with an essential ally in the Afghan campaign. The U.S. has provided billions of dollars in military and development aid to Pakistan for its support.
The U.S. and Afghanistan have sought to persuade midlevel Taliban commanders to lay down their weapons in exchange for jobs or cash. The most recent Afghan effort at starting a peace process took place this week in Kabul.
But few Taliban have given up the fight, officials say. Some Taliban commanders and U.S. officials say militant leaders are being pressured by officers from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency not to surrender.
"The ISI wants to arrest commanders who are not obeying [ISI] orders," said a Taliban commander in Kunar province.
U.S. officials say they have heard similar reports from captured militants and those negotiating to lay down their arms.
Read the whole thing. Then read Pakistan's Jihad, written by Thomas Joscelyn and me, back in December 2008. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
A fence should be put up around Pakistan. No Pakistanis should be allowed to enter the USA from this point forward - would be the most effective Homeland Security measure that we can take.
Pakistan knew it would lose a direct conflict with the U.S., which is the only reason it feigns cooperation.
The ISI needs to be liquidated, one way or another. Eventually the ISI will arrange to have a nuke detonated against our troops in Afghanistan, IMO. I hope I'm wrong, but if it happens while Obama the Coward is in office, we will not retaliate in kind.
Hitlery Clinton is a failure...needless to say.
So glad the idiots in DC have been shovelling billions in military aid down that rat hole...
that Pakistan was behind all the trouble in Afghanistan.
But Pock-ee-stahn is our ally. I guess in the same way Stalin was our ally.
You can only liquidate the ISI by taking out the Pakistani army.
And we’re sending them how much in foreign aid every year???
Remember most of our politicians are a reflection of the public as a whole, so what would you expect. Besides some of them are the dumbest money could buy.
Obambi is the Taliban’s goatBitch.
Larry Sinclair was right.
A smoking hole where Karachi stands today, that might be a prudent event.
And so what if Pakistan has nukes too? Theirs are aimed at India. And they know we could turn their nation into glass with a first strike anyway.
Maybe we should send Pakistan another $7 billion. Then they’ll be nice to us. I feel sure of it. /s
John Semmens would be proud of that headline
Plus we should bringing them over here as immigrants.
Plus we should continue bringing them over here as immigrants.
Notice that Hee-a-Ree is next door in Injia, playing kissyface with the Indians?
Almost time for the Hindu Card. That'll remove the Paki Army, ISI, and Taliban in one great big Swat (so to speak -- pun intentional) ..... payback for Delhi, Bombay .....
Plus a good excuse to push India's growing, ballooning Moo population, plus Pakistan's, all the way to Persia. See if they can survive in the wilds of Gedrosia any better than Alexander's army. I think the Hindus don't need to take any more cr*p off the Moo's. The raggies have killed their full quota of Hindus, and the worm's ready to turn and gorge on Moo flesh for a while.
Unpleasant, but then the ISI/Taliwhackers couldn't leave it alone, could they?
And we have to assume that China would stand by and watch when the US threatens their largest arms buyer and second oldest strategic ally with a nuclear strike??
Good Idea...but you forgot one thing
Its a good thing the Paks don’t have nukes and a couple billion $ of our weapons.
We are losing this war because of our own stupidity and ignorance. Our politicians are about 80% to blame, 10% the American public, and 10% the military.
Pakistan : Afghanistan :: Iran : Iraq
Before I make any comments on these foreign relations issues I need to hear from joe biden, the touted expert in foreign affairs. Also, input from the head of the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, john “I’ve been to viet nam” skerry would be very informative. Lastly, hitlery clintoon should have helpful comments given her penchant for effective foreign relations. We are blessed with such a talented team of leaders in foreign relations. nobama was a genius pulling these talented individuals together on his team. all praise the nobama!
Playing for the draw. Obama’s fault.
“Pakistan has been the root cause of the unrest in Afghanistan, and the ISI was the driving force behind the creation of the Taliban.”
I’ve always insisted that there is no war on terror without eliminating the ISI and the regime in Iran and Hezbollah. The Taliban was directly the result of ISI operations. They are still active in supporting the Taliban with intelligence. They created the Taliban in order to keep Afghanastan destabilized. Their approach is to provide strategic depth in the event of a war with India. I think we should threaten to begin supplying India with advanced weaponry and ballistic technology.
All those trillions we have given Pakistan. Our leaders have lied and lied...and our bureaunazis have complied.
Money sure buys a lot of hate.
You forgot the grand wizards: Saudi Arabia and their minions in OPEC.
I’m speaking of the actual puppetmasters, not their funders.
Bingo China, another cigar over here.
More rubble, less trouble.
Zero isn't lame, or halt (physically, at least) ... why does he need a cane?
I've advocated backing an Indian attack on Pakistan. Those duplicitous POS's in Pakistan are NOT our allies.
Stunning how inept and FUBAR this WH has been with regard to Pak. As is the length the MSM is going to hide this reality from the public.
> Our politicians are about 80% to blame, 10% the American
> public, and 10% the military
The American Public is about %53 to blame because that plurality, give or take some, continue to vote either for gimme pols, or out of ignorance, or out of blind loyalty, or all of the above.
The pols are mostly doing what those who elected them want them to do: redistribute wealth, play nicey-nicey with the MoHamHeads, push Christianity and Judaism out of the public sphere, and grow government.
Military mistakes are just that. Mistakes. However, because the military is becoming politicized with political correctness and all the other swill that goes with it, their effectiveness has been compromised accordingly.
> Zero isn’t lame, or halt (physically, at least) ... why
> does he need a cane?
Maybe it’s some kind of scepter.
We have what 400,000 illegals in this country that Janet says are nice friendly “just lookin for work folks”. A fence around Paki is like closing the barn door after the horse is out”.
Plus Paki is a NUKE Country. THERE is the REAL danger.
We should have gone ahead with option #2 when Cheney gave them a choice. At least some Muslims would fear us now.
maybe it is a sex toy for Zero and his boytoy?
Oh well then the ISI’s headquarters sounds like the perfect candidate for the use of a few smart bombs.
It’s time to start issuing ultimatums to Pakistan. Either they move their resources from India border and take care of Taliban in West or we will. I am talking about full assaults from the air including bombing and missile strikes and strategic ground operations.
“A fence should be put up around Pakistan. No Pakistanis should be allowed to enter the USA from this point forward - would be the most effective Homeland Security measure that we can take.”
Short of the far cheaper route of turning Wiziristan in to glowing glaas rubble.
