China Angered By Selection of Dissident Liu Xiaobo for Nobel Peace Prize
China Calls Choice of Jailed Dissident a 'Blasphemy' on the Prize
By CHITO ROMANA
BEIJING Oct. 8, 2010
Imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today, angering China which condemned the selection as a "blasphemy" and described Liu as a "criminal."
In choosing Liu, the Nobel committee cited his efforts to use non-violence to demand fundamental human rights in his homeland.
Liu, 54, was sentenced to 11 years in prison last December for his role in creating a manifesto entitled Charter 08, calling for democratic reform in China.
China reacted quickly to the Liu's selection, although the announcement was blacked out in China. The BBC and CNN both went to black in China during coverage of the Nobel's selection.

The BBC and CNN both went to black in China during coverage of the Nobel’s selection................................... There are still emails to get the info out.
The Nobel Peace prize is as worthless as a cracker jack prize, lighten up china, you take the stupid prize way too seriously. Its a joke boys.
Obama did absolutely nothing less this year to earn a second Nobel Peace Prize than he did the year before, but he was screwed out of back-to-back wins by this nobody in a Chinese prison.
All I'll say is that the nominating committee is mostly white.
Maybe the Chinese should convert to Islam and riot. Then the Nobel Committee will back off.
Were algore, Baracko and Jimmy Carter not eligible?
Apparently, the nobel prize committee is still trying to justify their pick last year of Obama, and they made another speech about it during this year’s presentation.
Their latest argument is that it was for beginning negotiations with Russian over a new Start treaty.
What?? Shouldn’t this year be Bill Clinton’s turn? All recent Democrat presidents have received one, including the prez-wannabe (actually, some people still believe he was the ‘legal’ one), except him.
....having said that, he must be a despicable nut because he was awarded the "Nobel peace prize"..and all of the "peace prize" recipients over the last 50 years have been despicable nuts.....
...Yassar Arafat, Jimmy Carter, Algore, president Zer0.....see?...
...maybe I am wrong, and am sweeping with a "broad brush"....if so, I am sure someone here will set me straight....
...but if it smells like a duck....well, you know.
How can you blaspheme against what is nominally an atheistic state?!?!?
Unless...maybe communism really is a religious system with the state as god...
Man up, China. I was angered by the selection of Al Gore and Barack Obama. I got through it, and I will remember in Novemember to take out the trash!
I propose a “free trade” response to the award.
We trade China our nobel winner, for theirs...
Their “dissident” would make a much better American than 0bama ever could or would want to.
Communism or “the state as god” religion
results from nihilism,
which is the natural result of rejecting the Creator.
Obviously a dangerous character.
How about Chelsea Clinton?? Afterall, the MSN was telling us that people around the world were giddy over the upcoming wedding.
I don’t know why the Nobel prize were to a Chinese dissent. Given the peace prize recipients over the last 20 years, this year’s award seems so out of place.
China sucks ass.
Setting aside the fact that it’s nothing more than a booby prize and that no one has ever heard of the guy, there is still the problem of China being upset and will most likely take it out on him. Not so great a move there, Prize Committee.
Of course, to communist the state is their god....
This also goes for the NEA, the EPA, most of BrainWashington....
*The Nobel Peace prize is as worthless as a cracker jack prize, lighten up china, you take the stupid prize way too seriously. Its a joke boys.*
It’s a shame that someone who deserves what the prize USED TO BE finally gets it after the sham of giving one to snake oil salesman Al “millions of degrees” Gore and the Pretender in Chief.
Get over it, China! We weren’t happy with the selection from our country either for the same reason. Criminal.
*Were algore, Baracko and Jimmy Carter not eligible?*
Or perhaps posthumous awards to Saul Alinsky or Nicolae Ceausescu???
“China Angered By Selection of Dissident Liu Xiaobo for Nobel Peace Prize”
Oh, they’ll probably just torture him more or kill his family. Nothing to see here...move along.
China angered by Nobel Prize selection.
Hey, China, join the crowd!
May I suggest to our communist sympathizing media, that it is the Chinese GOVERNMENT that is angry, not China. I suspect that “China”, that is the people who live in China, are for the most part thrilled. All credit to the Nobel committee for getting one right for a change.
I find it (mildly) amusing when newsdroids use “country X” as a shorthand for “the ruling class of country X.”
Either they are using a journalistic shorthand for the sake of the headline, or they really think that way.
I think they really think that way.
Why do we keep doing things to make China mad??
China is our friend. I know this because George Bush said that if we have free trade with China and give it “most favored nation” trading status, it would make China a more democratic country.
And it did....... right?
So don’t upset China, because that’s baaaaad. They might stop buying our stuff. oops... I forgot.... sorry......China doesn’t buy our stuff anyway...... even when it’s not mad.
Muhammad Yunus, Frederik Willem de Klerk and Nelson Mandela were fairly good choices.
It wouldn't surprise me that GW Bush supported that but the Republican Congress under Clinton pushed for and got China most favored nation trading status a few years before Mr. Bush was President. That would be Newt's "Contract With America" Congress.
