China Angered By Selection of Dissident Liu Xiaobo for Nobel Peace Prize

China Calls Choice of Jailed Dissident a 'Blasphemy' on the Prize

By CHITO ROMANA

BEIJING Oct. 8, 2010—

Imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today, angering China which condemned the selection as a "blasphemy" and described Liu as a "criminal."

In choosing Liu, the Nobel committee cited his efforts to use non-violence to demand fundamental human rights in his homeland.

Liu, 54, was sentenced to 11 years in prison last December for his role in creating a manifesto entitled Charter 08, calling for democratic reform in China.

China reacted quickly to the Liu's selection, although the announcement was blacked out in China. The BBC and CNN both went to black in China during coverage of the Nobel's selection.

I'm angered.

Obama did absolutely nothing less this year to earn a second Nobel Peace Prize than he did the year before, but he was screwed out of back-to-back wins by this nobody in a Chinese prison.

All I'll say is that the nominating committee is mostly white.

Maybe the Chinese should convert to Islam and riot. Then the Nobel Committee will back off.

Apparently, the nobel prize committee is still trying to justify their pick last year of Obama, and they made another speech about it during this year’s presentation.

Their latest argument is that it was for beginning negotiations with Russian over a new Start treaty.

What?? Shouldn’t this year be Bill Clinton’s turn? All recent Democrat presidents have received one, including the prez-wannabe (actually, some people still believe he was the ‘legal’ one), except him.

Forgive me folks, but I have never heard of "Dissident Liu Xiaobo".....

....having said that, he must be a despicable nut because he was awarded the "Nobel peace prize"..and all of the "peace prize" recipients over the last 50 years have been despicable nuts.....

...Yassar Arafat, Jimmy Carter, Algore, president Zer0.....see?...

...maybe I am wrong, and am sweeping with a "broad brush"....if so, I am sure someone here will set me straight....

...but if it smells like a duck....well, you know.

"China...condemned the selection as a "blasphemy"..."

How can you blaspheme against what is nominally an atheistic state?!?!?

Unless...maybe communism really is a religious system with the state as god...

I propose a “free trade” response to the award.

We trade China our nobel winner, for theirs...

Great idea.
Their “dissident” would make a much better American than 0bama ever could or would want to.

Communism or “the state as god” religion
results from nihilism,
which is the natural result of rejecting the Creator.

How about Chelsea Clinton?? Afterall, the MSN was telling us that people around the world were giddy over the upcoming wedding.

I don’t know why the Nobel prize were to a Chinese dissent. Given the peace prize recipients over the last 20 years, this year’s award seems so out of place.
