Howie thread for the week starting with his Sunday Boston Herald column
Sunday column ping
Is Tim Cahill crazy like a fox?
Meltdown man takes heat off his Democratic pals
By Howie Carr | Sunday, October 10, 2010 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists
When you see Tim Cahill these days, two words jump to mind: nervous exhaustion.
As in, Candidate hospitalized for . . .
But theres another way to look at this kind of once-in-a-decade-type meltdown. This started out as a terrible week for Democrats in Massachusetts. Scandal after scandal after scandal.
But then Timmy took a bullet for his team - the Democrats.
He became a political suicide bomber. Call it Operation: Change the Subject.
Think of this election year for Massachusetts Democrats as a World War II movie - the Americans are pinned down by the Krauts. It looks grim for Brooklyn and Tex and the rest of Sgt. Rocks platoon, but then one of the quiet guys, Pfc. Cahill, suddenly jumps up and runs straight up the hill at the Nazis machine-gun nest. He slays dozens of Jerrys with his submachine and draws all their fire as his buddies slip away . . .
Tim Cahill - he did it for a friend. Three, actually - John Tierney, Deval Patrick and Suzanne Bump. Consider what everyone was talking about before Timmy donned his tinfoil hat.
Tierneys wife gets caught laundering $8 million in dirty organized-crime money wired from the Caribbean by her fugitive brother.
Suzanne Bump, candidate for auditor, got caught cheating on her taxes - stop me if youve heard this one before. She was grabbing tax writeoffs claiming she lived in two places at once.
Primary residence, principal residence - I see them as two different things.
Ms. Bump, you have the right to remain silent . . . Speaking of which, Deval Patrick should have dummied up about the graduated income tax. But no, he had to open his yap, at least twice. But just as they were about to get slammed, Tim Cahill climbed unsteadily out of the foxhole, a bayonet clenched in his teeth, bellowing, Remember Pearl Harbor!
My favorite Cahill quote came Friday night, when he complained about the supporters of Charlie Baker calling the talk shows and putting the blast on him. See, Timmy can spot a GOP radio plant a mile away.
They disguise their voices, he explained.
Can someone say, Nuttier than a fruitcake?
Keep your arms out, Timmy. Itll make it harder for the guys in the white coats to throw the net over you.

Howie Carr and WRKO continue their nonstop
support of Romney, RomneyCARE, and anything which
helps Obama and Deval Patrick.
No matter that the PEOPLE have a right to vote for their choice.
No matter that the PEOPLE have a right to the truth.
Choice, Truth. Got that, Captain?
Only Cahill can help Deval Patrick. Howie is not on his side.
Cahill is in it till the end to get Deval re-elected.
That is not true.
Running Baker against Patrick
is like running Romney against Obama
and using the same mantra of fear to gin votes.
Conservatives will vote neither for Romney nor Baker.
Most importantly, Baker was selected NOT elected.
NO MORE DIRTY TRICKS by ROMNEY and BAKER and their ilk.
NO MORE RINOs who SUPPORT OBAMACARE and ROMNEYCARE.
One of the comments to Gelzinis’ column in today’s Herald:
-—Tim Cahill is an independent DEMOCRAT. He is not, nor will he ever be, “independent” of the Democratic machine that created him. Hey Timmy, I’m from Quincy myself...a life long resident...The gig is up, the “Old Boy Network” started here in Quincy a couple of centuries ago...you never had a chance to change your stripes...it was in the water...Now go out in the private sector and make some real money...our state can’t survive another four years of Deval Patrick and you’re more than smart enough to know that will be the outcome if you stay in this race...The choice is clear Tim, you’re either “independent” enough to give this state a chance to rid itself of progressive leftist leadership, or, as many have suggested, you are nothing more than a shill for that Old boy Network that created you...Show your independence Tim, bow out with grace and dignity and give our citizens a fighting chance to take back our state. And next time, run as an “Independent” democrat...you can’t change your stripes mid-stream...and that’s just what you did...
No, because neither LG candidate has left those tickets. Only Cahill's has, because Loscocco could see the writing on the wall. So Cahill has to use what TV character Red Green calls the handyman's secret weapon, duct tape, to wipe it out!
Below: Gov candidate Bucky Beaver; note the tape wiping out his running mate's name
and note also that the word “independents”, plural, is at top
Local Republicans say Paul Loscocco saw the light when he defected from running mate Tim Cahill and endorsed the GOP’s Charlie Baker yesterday, but Democrats pondered what prompted that change of heart.
“I guess everybody’s leaving a sinking ship,” Roger Dowd, a Framingham attorney and active member of the Democratic Party, said of the Cahill camp.
At a press conference, Loscocco said he pulled the switch because he thinks Baker has the best chance of defeating Gov. Deval Patrick and taking Massachusetts in a new direction.
Loscocco said he could not let his ego get in the way of doing the right thing.
“He just couldn’t any longer look people in the eyes and ask for their support and counter the question, ‘Well, won’t voting for you just be effectively casting a vote for Deval Patrick?’ “ Haley said.
Many political observers agree that it could be difficult for Cahill, already low in the polls, to rebound.
“If the people in your own camp don’t think you can win, I don’t know how you can make the case convincingly that you can win,” McGrath said.
I love the Sgt. Rock reference!!! I remember the days of buying GI Combat, Unknown Soldier and Sgt. Rock comics...no PC BS in them.
I say piss on then all; my protest vote is going to Jill Stein.
I liked “The Haunted Tank”, myself.
Give it rest, you keep spouting the same BS - and yes it is BS because anyone who listens to Howie knows that what you post is nonsense. Go back to DU.
Right! Good stuff there too!
Anyone who listens to Howie Carr — or his gravel voiced
replacement — knows there is just fawning love for
Romney, RomneyCARE and attacks against Gov. Palin.
The nonsense is that you support it here on FR.
Either discuss WHY you and Howie Carr are enamored
with RomneyCARE and Mitt Romney,
or consider wearing a warning label.
you’re ridiculous, if you actually listen to Howie you’d know that he is NOT a fan of romney care, get your facts straight before you ramble on like a fool.
Seems that you are a deceitful RomneyBOT.
GO back to DU and rant over there. You’re so far off the mark it’s ridiculous.
>>Baker was selected NOT elected.
Hey! Good memories for moonbats. Bush was selected not
elected, too, you know...
Pres. Bush was ELECTED and was chosen by GOP primaries.
By contrast, Baker, Romney’s poodle, who is devoted
to RomneyCARE was NOT chosen by primary.
It was a manipulation to remove a vote from the
public (How Romney is that?)
You RomneyBOTs try to spin history, don’t you?
I guess you just can’t handle the TRUTH. Go back to DU.
Amazing, it’s all a conspiracy. Baker and Mihos both ran,
Mihos ran out of money. Surely some will accuse us of
conspiracy talk with Patrick/Cahill but the GOP nomination
wasn’t a behind the scenes deal set out to squash competition.
Maybe someday there will be a true conservative who will become the nominee; it would be doubtful they could win
given this is Massachusetts though so we have to take what we can. Either that or change the moonbat minds of the voters.
SOME are waking up. But the system of more government
creating a dependence system is tough to beat.
Perhaps people are waking up on the national level too
and we can throw out Obama but this is MA and we have to
lurch carefully to the right lest we once again become
a one party state.
And Cahill belongs to that one party, in the end.
>>Bush was selected
I was being sarcastic. Sorry I didn’t put the :)
in there. I know it’s important to be serious but
I’m trying to use a little humor here, something I haven’t
seen much of in your posts. I’m glad you’ll probably be
miserable after four years of Gov. Baker since perhaps
you revel in misery. I do know I’ll be miserable if
your candidate, Deval Patrick, gets another four years.
And other some Carr-like sarcasm, it may not be too
fun for me.
Because a vote for Cahill is a vote for Patrick. Either
Patrick or Baker will win. If you don’t want Baker, ultimately you are preferring Deval.
You claim, "VOTE FOR THE RINO because you otherwise get Obama/Patrick."
Nope. It is a bad, no longer working mantra.
Go back to DU.
Romney, Baker (RomneyCARE deluxe), and Obama are three of a kind.
No RINOs. No Baker.
Na na na na na na na na...FATTMAN!
Just on Howie’s show with his cheap cell phone.
DU loves Tim Cahill

Governors got some deep Pockets for his fund-raiser
By Howie Carr | Wednesday, October 13, 2010 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists
The motto of the Massachusetts Democrat party used to be: If youre indicted, youre invited.
Now its been updated: If youre in organized crime, you organize the time.
Am I right, Patrice Tierney, wife of moonbat Rep. Johnny Pockets Tierney? It turns out Mrs. Pockets has been a very busy felon. Not only has she been laundering $8 million for her brother, a fugitive gangster, but shes also been organizing a chi-chi fund-raiser on the North Shore for Gov. Deval Patrick.
Apparently none of the local Democrats cared when she copped a sudden, pre-election plea in federal court last week no jail time, of course, and a mere $2,500 fine. For laundering $8 million for mobsters. Its good to be married to a guy named Pockets. By the way, there are more corrupt places than Boston. There have to be.
But then someone handed me an invitation to Mrs. Johnny Pockets fund-raiser for Deval. It lists the Mass. Democrat Partys newest felon as Honorary Chair of Devals $50,000 time. Monday, we began calling, and a few hours later Patrice was thrown under yet another bus, just the way her husband did to her at the courthouse a week ago.
But Deval Patrick, of course, wouldnt think of speaking ill of the felonious. I dont know the whole story, but it sound like a very, very sad one.
An indictment is always a disappointment, as we used to say in Somerville.
My heart goes out to her.
Thats the sort of thing you say when youre hoping that someone will stand up. Here is what her husband, Johnny Pockets, said last week in a televised debate about his wifes organized-crime Laundromat.
It wasnt a family business that she was running. It was a family, a family business, but not a family business.
Thanks for straightening that out, Pockets.
The time is scheduled next Tuesday night at the Hawthorne Hotel, which occupies a small place in the history of Salem. Its the hotel former Rep. Michael Harrington was indicted (on 12 counts) for buying and then allegedly skimming back in 2000. He plea-bargained it down to a misdemeanor stop me if youve heard this one before.
The feds bagged Harringtons successor, Nicky Mavroules, on a felony racketeering rap. Nickys nickname was Pockets, too.
Back to Patrices party for her dear pal Deval. Ex-con, I mean Rep. Harrington is a sponsor. The patrons on the invitation include David Harrison, a former state rep and district court judge. Harrison retired along with an ex-solon-turned-judge in the wake of an incident at a zoning board hearing where Harrisons wife (another patron of the party) had a beef with somebody, and the hack judge said, Get your head out of your (expletive.)
They were removed from the bench amidst charges of perjury and abuse of power, but ... think Patrice Tierney. Think brooms. In the halls of justice, the only justice is in the halls. Everything worked out for the best. Judge Harrisons state pension is $78,644.52 a year.
So the time at the Hawthorne is still on, even if Patrice is indisposed. If you like corruption, vote Democrat. You cant say you werent warned.

3rd hour today - after the chumpline
@5:30pm Howie will be interviewing Bill Gunn
From Howie’s site:
One of the canidates seeking to unseat 10-term U.S. Rep. John W. Olver, D-Amherst, and hoping to ride an anti-incumbent wave to victory in this midterm election is in the Massachusetts First District, which runs from Berkshire to Worcester counties is William L. Gunn Jr., 48, a Republican from Ware. We will speak with Mr. Gunn about his campaign.
LMAO, right outta the box Howie is bashing entercom, seems some of the “marconi autographed” equipment has broken down.........again.......no intro.......Howie wants to know when he’s going to “get outta this hole” - says he’s been there a lot longer than 69 days - says he’ll be hugging everyone once he gets “outta this hole” LMAO
yup heard that, also heard him say something like “When the signal of WRKO gets weak if you’re in certain areas due to earlier sunsets tune to WCRN, AM 830—I hope I don’t have to keep saying this the rest of my life. Maybe I won’t have to in a few weeks.”
That last bit was a bit puzzling—Howie supp. has 2 yrs left on the ill-fated contract (”I’ve already been in the hole for 3 yrs now”—5 yr contract); is he trying to escape early with legal help? who knows
Special Thu column ping. Anyone hear the pothead,
er, legalize-pot supporter Howie had on? Third or
fourth party candidate in the Perry-Keating race, I think
(guy named Van Ness);
couldn’t name national or local House or Senate leadership
and could pretty much only name 1 US Rep for MA, the outgoing Delahunt. (I can name all 10, in order, right off the top of my head. Ready? “Dutch Elm” Olver, “The Sheik” Neal, McGovern, Frank, “Remember the T is Silent” Tsongas,
Tierney (and his money laundromat), Markey, Capuano,
Lynch, and the outgoing Delahunt.
Anyway the guy got really combative after Howie started going after him about the pot situation and his lack
of knowledge. He did want to talk about the war though
Keep those cards and letters coming in, folks

The Hack Hotline claims its third victim of the week Brian G. Roche, $84,869.90-a-year assistant clerk/magistrate, busted for OUI in Milton a week ago last Saturday.
Without our dime-droppers, the Herald never would have known about this latest outburst of open and gross hackery. Thanks to whoever whacked Roche for us Im buying the next time I see you down the Tahiti in Dedham.
Just in the past week, the Hack Hotline has generated the tip about Devals free-liquor welfare cards dont leave the project without your Zeituni card! Then came the envelope with no return address and inside a copy of the invitation to Devals Oct. 19 time at the Hawthorne Hotel sponsored by convicted Mob money-laundress Patrice Tierney.
And now, this latest missive, about an HUI hack under the influence. Another heads-up that arrived in an envelope with no return address. Those are the ones that get opened first. Dont e-mail too easy to trace. The Zeituni welfare-card tip came in via fax, but that too can be risky unless you own the fax machine.
Snail mail is the best, for all concerned. If its good, we move fast. Just ask Brian Roche, and Mrs. Johnny Pockets Tierney.
So here is this Roche hack, bailed out by the first assistant clerk, Robert Bloom, who makes $92,034 a year. But even funnier is how Roche blames the eight Budweisers in his 2003 Chrysler Sebring on his boss. That would be the clerk of courts, Walter Timilty, who makes $110,221 a year and is the father of state rep Walter Timilty, who made $68,561 last year.
Four problems with Roches conduct:
Number one, you gave up the name of the barroom where you
allegedly ingested the bad ice cube, Malachys on Granite Street. Even state reps as dim as Paul Kujawski know that when the cops are asking you to do the sidewalk Olympics, you tell them that you took your last drink at a private dwelling.
Number two, who the hell drinks Budweiser anymore? Its Bud Light, pal.
Number three, I dont care how loaded you are, you dont point the finger at your boss. Is there no honor among hacks?
Number four, dont diss the cop that pinched you. Heres what he said, after calling Officer Wanda Craig a Nazi: Remember the 70s when there were no women police officers?
What? Didnt this crapulous coatholder ever watch Police Woman on TV? Angie Dickinson va-va-va-voom! Her nickname was Pepper. Roche is lucky he didnt get pepper-sprayed.
Keep those no-return-address letters coming in. Drop a dime on them before they drop one on you.

A little off topic, but does anyone else get the sense Howie’s upcoming novel will be an embarrassing disaster? Maybe I don’t have enough faith. I think Howie is a superb nonfiction writer. I cringed when he said he had a soon-to-be-released novel in the works, however. The transition from nonfiction to fiction is bigger than a lot of people realize, and if Howie craters he won’t be the first guy with NF cred who died in the F trenches. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised, but if the novel blows I want credit for predicting it.
Love the "hack hotline", seems Howie has been getting a lot of "dirt" from people who have dropped a dime to the line - I love it when these holier than thou hacks get busted.
Is anyone listening to Howie right now? Supposedly, he has an advance copy of a poll that will be out tomorrow that is VERY favorable to Baker.
And Jim McKenna is within 9 pts. of Coakley!
just checking....McKenna’s name IS on the ballot, right????
He’s no longer a write-in but a CONTENDER vs. Marsha?????
If he’s got an “R” after his name, he picks up another 10% once the curtain closes....
